A case that houses a chain includes a first cover member fixed to a cylinder block and a cylinder head, and a second cover member arranged on the opposite side of the cylinder block and the cylinder head from the first cover member. In an intermediate part, which is a part of a confronting wall of the first cover member between the first flange and the second flange, a cover-side rib is provided, having a height so that a distal end of the cover-side rib is not in contact with the cylinder block.

Internal combustion engine

A first fastening portion () for fastening a cylinder block () and a bracket () to each other and a second fastening portion () for fastening a crank case () and the bracket () to each other are so provided as to have interposed therebetween a fastening bolt () for fastening the cylinder block () and the crank case () to each other.

Bracket fastening structure

A sliding bearing is constructed by an upper split bearing half and a lower split bearing half. The upper split bearing half has a sliding surface, in which an oil groove which allows a lubricating oil to flow therein is formed over the entire circumferential extent of the sliding surfaced. The oil groove extends through a crush relief to be open to a junction area, and the oil groove has a bottom which is formed so that a portion disposed toward the junction area as considered in the circumferential direction of the crush relief is located closer to the center of the upper split bearing half in comparison to a central portion. An ingress in large quantities of foreign particles within the oil groove onto the sliding surface of the sliding bearing and into a connecting rod bearing after passing through a lubricating oil feed passage is suppressed, and an oil leakage through the crush relief is reduced, allowing a lubricating oil pressure to be secured and augmented.

Sliding bearing

An oil drain passage that guides, to an oil pan, lubrication oil in a space surrounded by a side wall of an engine block and an inner wall of a chain cover is formed with a partition formed by contacting a rib provided on the inner wall of the chain cover and a rib provided on the side wall of the engine block. An opening is provided in a portion of the partition.

Oil drain passage structure

A crankcase that is provided in an internal combustion engine, in which blow-by gas is returned to an intake passage via a gas outflow passage formed in a cylinder block so as to extend in a direction from an upper portion to a lower portion of the cylinder, includes: a partition wall extending in a direction from an upper portion to a lower portion of the crankcase and facing an inner side surface of a crankcase outer wall that also extends in the direction from the upper portion to the lower portion of the crankcase; an internal space that is formed between the partition wall and the inner side surface of the crankcase outer wall and connected to the gas outflow passage at an upper end of the internal space; and a window that is formed on the partition wall to communicate an inside and outside of the internal space.

Crankcase for internal combustion engine

A first rib extending downward from a middle portion to an outer peripheral portion is formed on an inner wall of a chain cover. In addition a second rib, which extends downward from the outer peripheral portion to the middle portion and has a height lower than that of the first rib, is formed above the first rib. A projection extending in the height direction of the second rib is provided on an upper surface of the second rib.

A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine in which pistons provided in a plurality of cylinders are coupled to a crankshaft by connecting rods, an oil pan for storing oil is mounted below a crankcase, and a balancer device which has a balancer shaft driven to rotate in accordance with rotation of the crankshaft and a balancer housing for accommodating the balancer shaft is housed between the crankcase and the oil pan, the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having a heat transfer member that is provided between the balancer housing and the oil pan and below the balancer shaft, and comes into contact with the balancer housing and the crankcase.

An oil-feeding device for a crankshaft where the amount of lubricant oil leaking from supporting areas of main journal portions is reduced without increasing friction of bearing members against the main journal portions. The oil-feeding device for a crankshaft includes upper bearing members and lower bearing members. The upper and lower bearing members have a half hollow cylindrical shape, are provided with crush relief portions at both ends, and jointly encompass main journal portions of a crank shaft. The upper bearing members have circumferentially extending oil grooves provided in the faces opposite the main journal portions, the grooves penetrating through oil passages of a cylinder block. The lower bearing members do not have oil grooves. The oil grooves do not extend in the crush relief portions, and therefore the leakage of lubricant oil, fed to the oil grooves, to the areas of the crush relief portions is suppressed.
