Processing unitstoaligned along the transport path for a sheet bundle S are accommodated in a housing together with transport unitsand. Windowstoare provided in the housing front face, and variable-color lighting unitsare arranged inside the housing. Light emitting surfaces (projection plates) of the variable-color lighting units are arranged facing the windows. Sensor units, andthat detect an anomaly of an operation of the transport unit and sensor unitsandthat detect an anomaly of the operation of respective processing units are provided. A binding processing unit stops when an anomaly is detected by the sensor unit, when a system error occurs, or when an emergency stop instruction is input. The color of emission light from a light emitting surface changes to indicate the operation status of the binding processing system.

A three side trimmer has a trimming unit, an accumulating unit, a discharge unitand a conveying mechanismconveying trimmed booklets BK to the accumulating unit. The accumulating unit has a shelfmovable in a vertical direction, and a drive roller conveyoron the shelf. The accumulating unit, in a mode, delivers the trimmed booklets to the discharge unit at every accumulation of a predetermined number of the trimmed booklets and, in another mode, accumulates the trimmed booklets without delivering.

The folding machine has parameters adjustable depending on a thickness of the sheet. The saddle stitching machine has parameters adjustable depending on a thickness of the signature P, P. The control unit sets the parameters of the folding machine based on the information about the thickness of the sheet and sets the parameters of the saddle stitching machine based on the information about the thickness of the signature calculated using the information about the thickness of the sheet and the information about the folding pattern of the folding machine.

Three side trimmer

When a length in a conveying direction of a margin to be cut off is shorter than a predetermined distance between a cutting part and a second conveying part, a sheet cutting machine feeds a first sheet to the cutting part using a first conveying part while keeping the second conveying part positioned at a conveying path. When the length is equal to or longer than the predetermined distance, the machine feeds the first sheet to the cutting part using the first conveying part after upwardly retracting the second conveying part from the conveying path using a retracting mechanism.

Sheet cutting machine

A scoring machine incorporated in a sheet folding apparatus forms scores on sheets according to a folding pattern. The scoring machine comprises upper and lower rotary shafts provided with pairs of convex and concave rollers, and a positioning unit slidably attached to a slide guide. When a rotatable member is arranged at a standing position, the convex roller engages with a groove on one end face of the rotatable member, or the concave roller engages with a projection on the other end face of the rotatable member. A sequence pattern of the pairs of convex and concave rollers on the upper and lower rotary shafts corresponding to the folding pattern is displayed on a display. The positioning unit stops at the specified positions of the pairs of convex and concave rollers while sliding.

Scoring machine

A knife folding machine comprises: a support surface () for supporting a lower surface of a sheet (S); a knife blade (); a pair of folding rollers () opposed to the knife blade () at a fold position with the support surface () therebetween. The knife blade () is reciprocated between first and second positions by a knife drive unit. The first position is away from an upper surface of the support surface, and the second position is adjacent a gap between the folding rollers. The reciprocal movement of the knife blade () effects a folding operation every time the sheet (S) is set at the fold position. The sheet (S) is conveyed to the fold position by the conveyer belt (). The conveyer belt () is driven by a first servomotor (). The control unit () controls the rotation of the first servomotor () so as to decelerate the sheet (S) before its abutment against the stopper () without its rebounding against the stopper ().

Knife folding machine

A paper folding device is configured so that a folding line is always formed at a predetermined position of paper sheets. A paper supply section is provided with a conveyor belt for conveying paper sheets (P) sequentially supplied from a paper sheet stack. A guide plate () for aligning the positions of the conveyed paper sheets is provided on a conveying surface of the conveyor belt. A paper folding section has a buckle () comprising an outer frame () and bars () which extend between opposite sides () of the outer frame and are arranged at intervals from each other. Paper sheet introducing gaps extended in the direction of the length of the bars are provided in the buckle. Before the start of paper folding operation, a control section calculates and processes data relating to the size of paper sheets and data relating to the position of the bars, so that the distance to the guide plate from a reference point in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction (R) is set to a value with which a side edge of each paper sheet introduced into the paper sheet introducing gaps in the buckle is separated by a distance not less than a predetermined level from a side edge of a bar located closest to the side edge of the paper sheet. Then, the control section sets the position of the guide plate according to the set value.

Sheet folding apparatus

A sheet conveying section (B) sequentially conveys a sheet (P) from a sheet feeding section (A), and a sheet folding section (D) folds the sheet (P) received from the sheet conveying section (B) in a conveying direction. The sheet conveying section (B) comprises a conveyer belt (), and a positioning ruler () for positioning the sheet (P) while it is conveyed. The sheet folding section (D) comprises a folding knife (), a pair of folding rollers (), and first and second guides (a,b) arranged on either side of the folding knife (). The sheet (p) is positioned to a fold position by the first and second guides (a,b) and folded by the folding knife () and the folding roller (). The positioning ruler () is moved in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction by a first driving mechanism (). The first and second guides (a) are moved in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction respectively by second and third driving mechanisms (). Control section () moves the first and second guides (a,b) in conjunction with the movement of the positioning ruler () and moves the second guide (b) with conjunction with the movement of the first guide (a) and allows the independent movement of the second guide (b).

A sheet conveying section (B) sequentially conveys a sheet (P) from a sheet feeding section (A), and a sheet folding section (D) folds the sheet (P) received from the sheet conveying section (B) in a conveying direction. The sheet conveying section (B) comprises a conveyer belt (), and a positioning ruler () for positioning the sheet (P) while it is conveyed. The sheet folding section (D) comprises a folding knife (), a pair of folding rollers (), and first and second guides () arranged on either side of the folding knife (). The sheet (p) is positioned to a fold position by the first and second guides () and folded by the folding knife () and the folding roller (). The positioning ruler () is moved in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction by a first driving mechanism (). The first and second guides () are moved in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction respectively by second and third driving mechanisms (). Control section () moves the first and second guides () in conjunction with the movement of the positioning ruler () and moves the second guide () with conjunction with the movement of the first guide () and allows the independent movement of the second guide ().
