Disclosed are recombinant bacteriophage constructs and related exogenous peptide sequences for generating immune responses against CD47. The disclosed recombinant phage constructs bind to antibodies against CD47 and can be administered to an animal to generate an immune response against CD47, including generating anti-CD47 antibodies. The disclosed recombinant phage may comprise an amino acid sequence of CD47, epitopic fragments, variants, or functional mimics thereof. Also disclosed are methods for making and selecting such recombinant phage constructs and compositions that comprise such constructs (e.g., compositions for inducing an immune response against CD47 including pharmaceutical or veterinary compositions used as vaccines). Also disclosed are recombinant polynucleotides comprising genomic nucleic acid of the recombinant phage constructs disclosed herein.

The disclosed compositions may include pharmaceutical compositions. Methods for identifying peptides that bind to intact oocytes also are provided, in particular methods for identifying peptides that bind to zona pellucida of intact oocytes.

Methods for identifying peptides that bind to intact oocytes

A diagnostic technique for matching anti-cancer peptide drugs to the molecular profiles of individual cancer tumors, and a method using the technique for a patient-specific treatment of tumors in mammals. This strategy matches anti-cancer peptide drugs to the molecular profiles of individual tumors, and includes the development of two banks, both of which use the same targeting peptides. Targeting peptides are identified using biopsies or other tissue materials from multiple cancer patients and placed into two banks. For a bank of probes, targeting peptides are linked to a label such as a fluorescent or a radioisotope. For a bank of drugs, targeting peptides are linked to a cytotoxic peptide to form a 'targeting peptide drug'. Peptide probes are used to establish molecular profiles of individual tumors. Based on these molecular profiles, a patient-specific combination of targeting drugs from the bank of peptide drugs is prepared and the patient is treated. Any currently used cytotoxic agent that can be linked to targeting peptides may be used in place of cytotoxic peptides.

Methods for targeting and killing glioma cells

Methods and compositions for evaluating the affinity of one or more ligands of interest are provided. In particular, a ligand sensor device (LSD) comprising a sensor coupled to a peptide of interest is provided. Assays using the LSD allow detection of ligand-peptide interactions directly in tissue samples and thus provide an in vitro assay to characterize peptide ligands. The LSD and assays find particular use in characterizing cell-specific peptides isolated from in vivo screening in animals to determine their suitability for use in human therapy.

Ligand sensor devices and uses thereof

Compositions for use in characterization, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of cancer cells are provided. The compositions comprise peptides and variants thereof which were isolated based on their ability to selectively bind glioma cells.
