A posture estimation device, which is able to estimate the posture of a humanoid articulated body with high precision, has: a head estimation unit () that estimates the position of a person's head from image information for an image that contains a person; a foot estimation unit () that, from the image information, estimates the position of the person's foot for which the sole of the foot is parallel to the floor surface; and a posture estimation unit () that estimates the posture of the person on the basis of the relative positional relationship between the estimated head position and the estimated foot position. For example, the posture estimation unit () estimates the side on which the foot is located, with respect to the head, as the front side of the person.

A driving support device includes an image-capturer that captures side rear images of a vehicle, a distance measurer that measures a distance between the vehicle and another vehicle, and a vehicle detector that detects the another vehicle in the captured images. A superimposed image generator calculates a distance of units of the vehicle length based on information concerning the vehicle length stored in a vehicle length information storage and the distance to the another vehicle detected by the distance measurer, and generates a superimposed image based on the calculated distance. A display image generator synthesizes the generated superimposed image on a side peripheral image including the captured side rear images, and displays the image on a display installed in a position at which the field of front vision of the driver is not obstructed.

An aspect of the invention provides an information display apparatus and an information display method which allow a driver to easily recognize the display information without discomfort, regardless of the traveling state of a vehicle. It includes an attention object detecting unit () which detects information to be displayed to the driver, a symbol image selecting unit () which sets a symbol image to be displayed for the driver, an optical flow calculating unit () which detects an optical flow of a foreground of the own vehicle, a motion effect determining unit () which sets a motion effect to be added to the symbol image, a display image generating unit () which generates a display image in which the motion effect added by the motion effect determining unit is combined with the symbol image, and a display control unit () which displays the generated display image for the driver. The motion effect determining unit () changes the motion effect to be added to the symbol image in accordance with the traveling state of the vehicle.
