Apparatuses for identifying nerve tissue and methods for making and using the same are disclosed. An example apparatus may include an elongate shaft having a distal region configured to be percutaneously deployed within a patient. An active imaging structure may be disposed on the distal region. The active imaging structure may be configured to remotely image nerve tissue by exciting a signal in nerve tissue from a percutaneous location and receiving the signal from a percutaneous location. The active imaging structure may include one or more probes.

Percutaneous devices and methods to visualize, target and ablate nerves

Described herein are systems and methods for suppressing speckle noise in ultrasound imaging. In an embodiment, speckle noise suppression is provided by incoherently summing echo waves that impinge the active aperture of the transducers. This incoherent summation prevents echo waves from destructively interfering and therefore prevents the signal 'nulls' that characterize speckle noise. In an exemplary embodiment, the incoherent summation is performed by sub-dividing a transducer into a plurality of smaller transducers and incoherently summing the electrical signals from the smaller transducers. In one exemplary embodiment, each of the smaller transducers is coupled to a separate rectifier, which rectifies the electrical signal from the respective transducer into a rectified signal. The rectified signals from the rectifiers are then summed to provide the incoherent summation.

Ultrasound imaging with speckle suppression via direct rectification of signals

A medical device system includes an elongated body with a distal end that is configured and arranged for insertion into a patient. A housing is disposed in the distal end of the body. A rotatable magnet is disposed in the housing. At least one magnetic field winding is configured and arranged to generate a magnetic field at the location of the magnet. The magnetic field causes rotation of the magnet at a target frequency. An array of magnetic field sensors is disposed external to the patient. The magnetic field sensors are configured and arranged to sense the location and orientation of the magnet in relation to the array of magnetic field sensors.

Systems and methods for determining the position and orientation of medical devices inserted into a patient

An imaging assembly comprises a catheter having a distal end and a proximal end, an ablation tip at the distal end of the catheter, and an imaging device disposed within the ablation tip. The catheter defines a catheter lumen that extends from the proximal end to the distal end. The catheter is configured and arranged for insertion into a body lumen such as a blood vessel or heart chamber. The ablation tip has a wall that defines a lumen in communication with the lumen of the catheter. The imaging device is disposed within the lumen of the ablation tip, and is configured to transmit pulsed acoustic waves for generating images of body tissue at a target ablation site within the body.

Ultrasound guided tissue ablation

An imaging assembly for an intravascular ultrasound system includes a catheter, an imaging core, and at least one transducer conductor. The imaging core is insertable into the catheter and extendable from a distal end of the catheter. The imaging core includes a rotatable magnet, a tilted reflective surface, and at least one fixed transducer all disposed in a body. The rotatable magnet is configured and arranged to rotate by a magnetic field generated external to the catheter. The tilted reflective surface rotates with the magnet. The at least one transducer is configured and arranged for transforming applied electrical signals to acoustic signals and also for transforming received echo signals to electrical signals. The at least one transducer conductor is electrically coupled to the at least one transducer and is configured and arranged to extend into the catheter when the imaging core is extended from the catheter.

Systems and methods for making and using an imaging core of an intravascular ultrasound imaging system

A catheter assembly includes a catheter and a delivery element. The catheter has a distal end with a distal tip, a proximal end, and a longitudinal length. The catheter includes a body that defines a central lumen extending along the catheter to the distal end. The catheter also includes a forward-facing transducer array disposed at the distal tip of the catheter. The transducer array is configured and arranged for transforming applied electrical signals to acoustic signals and also for transforming received echo signals to electrical signals. At least one catheter conductor is electrically coupled to the transducer array and extends along the catheter. The delivery element is disposed in the lumen of the catheter. The delivery element includes a distal tip that is configured and arranged for contacting patient tissue. The distal tip of the delivery element is configured and arranged to extend beyond the distal tip of the catheter.

Systems and methods for making and using image-guided intravascular and endocardial therapy systems

An auscultation system aids a clinician's diagnosis of the heart sounds by visually displaying at least an Sheart sound and an Sheart sound, and ascertaining an onset of at least one of the heart sounds. A corresponding audio representation of the heart sounds can be provided to the clinician. The auscultation system includes a sensor for sensing heart sounds from at least one chest location of the patient and for transducing the heart sounds into electrical signals. The auscultation system also includes a signal processor for selectively filtering the electrical signals thereby highlighting frequency differences of the heart sounds, and further includes a video display for selectively displaying the selectively filtered electrical heart signals. In some embodiments, the auscultation system also displays calipers corresponding to the time domain and the frequency domain of the heart sounds, permitting the clinician to zoom in and out portions of the heart sounds of particular interest and also to take more accurate measurements of these portions of the heart sounds.

Methods and apparatus for blood speckle detection in an intravascular ultrasound imaging system

Methods and apparatus for non-uniform rotation distortion detection for enhanced intravascular ultrasound imaging. The present invention provides methods and apparatus which detect non-uniform rotation in an improved manner without using beacons which may create shadowing of tissue behind the beacons or other undesired artifacts in the image. In specific embodiments, the present invention may provide a particularly simple and useful solution for addressing the problem of non-uniform rotation distortion in intravascular ultrasound imaging in systems which use mechanical scanning. In specific embodiments, the present invention utilizes correlation of received signals in an image vector from reverberating ultrasound in a bubbly liquid-flushed catheter to determine non-uniform rotation of the transducer within the catheter. In other embodiments, the present invention utilizes correlation of imaging vectors within a blood speckle region given a particular beamwidth of ultrasound energy from a transducer to determine non-uniform rotation of the transducer.
