An exhaust manifold of which each exhaust port is formed by a pipe member is disclosed. Each pipe member at one end portion has a wedge shape section. Each pipe member at the other end portion is connected to the cylinder head of an engine. The pipe members are abutted one another in the one end portion to form the merging portion of the exhaust manifold. A plurality of radial partition walls are formed in the merging portion by joining end surfaces of the pipe members one another. In the exhaust manifold, two adjacent partition walls among the partitions walls are arranged almost symmetrically around a plane which passes through the center of the merging portion and is parallel to a direction in which the largest force is generated by thermal expansions of the exhaust ports.

Exhaust manifold

A sealed type engine cooling system having a reservoir tank connected to the engine recirculating water passageway by inlet pipes connected to the upper outlet of an engine cooling water passageway and to the upper inlet of a radiator. The bottom portion of the reservoir tank is connected to the bottom of the engine cooling water passageway, for supplementing the engine cooling water, and is provided with a cap with a relief valve, to thereby discharge vapor created in the cooling water passageway under a hot soak condition. The relationship between the inner diameter of the pipes is such that the effective cross sectional area of the inlet pipe means is 1.5 to 3 times larger than the effective cross sectional area of the outlet pipe means, or the inlet pipe is arranged so that a minimum distance is obtained between the engine upper portion and the radiator, or a check valve is arranged in the outlet pipe, or the space inside the reservoir tank is partitioned into chambers, and the inlet and outlet pipes are connected to separate chambers.

Cooling system for an internal combustion engine

An arrangement and structure for an oil pan system to permit mounting a vertical in-line engine in a vehicle in a horizontal or nearly horizontal attitude includes a cylinder block of the engine having an opening on the side wall thereof, a cover attached to the cylinder block where an ordinary oil pan is usually mounted, an adapter plate fastened to the lower side wall of the cylinder block and bottom of the cover, and an oil pan attached to the lower surface of the adapter plate. The adapter plate allows the oil pan to extend and always remain below the cylinder block, so that the return paths from the lubricated portions of the engine to the oil pan are shortened.

Oil pan arrangement for horizontally mounted engine

A manifold reactor used for the purpose of cleaning the exhaust gas emitted from an automobile or any other internal combustion engine-driven vehicle, which is constituted of three shells, i.e, an inner shell or baffle, an intermediate shell and an outer shell. The construction of said manifold reactor allows the inner shell and the intermediate shell to freely expand or contract in any direction in relation to the outer shell by virtue of a suspension structure with a suspension bolt that fixes the inner shell and the intermediate shell in a central place within the outer shell thus avoiding thermal stress due to heat of the exhaust gas.

A manifold reactor having inner and outer cores, the latter enclosing the former, the outer core having an inlet tube while the inner core having a tubular inlet portion, the inlet tube and the inlet portion being telescoped with each other, wherein an annular seal element made of a metal sheet or sheets is provided between telescoping portions of the abovementioned two members, with one peripheral portion of the annular seal element being connected to one of the two telescoping members, while the other peripheral portion of the annular seal element being elastically and slidably engaged with the other of the two telescoping members.
