Embodiments of the disclosure relate to systems and methods for determining a fault location in a three-phase series-compensated power transmission line system by using symmetrical components-based formulas that describe various voltage and current relationships. The voltage and current relationships can be derived using a synchronous measurement procedure that is concurrently executed at a sending end and a receiving end of the first series-compensated power transmission line system. Furthermore, determining the fault location in accordance with certain embodiments of the disclosure can eliminate one or more of a need to calculate an impedance value of any of the series capacitors or the series capacitor protection elements that are a part of the three-phase series-compensated power transmission line system, a need to monitor any of the series capacitor protection elements, and a need to measure a voltage drop across any of the series capacitors.

Systems and methods for determining a fault location in a three-phase series-compensated power transmission line

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to detecting turn-to-turn faults in one or more windings of various objects. In one implementation, a fault detector uses a differential protection algorithm to detect a turn-to-turn fault in a winding of a three-phase shunt reactor. Various voltage and current measurements carried out upon the three-phase shunt reactor are used to calculate a difference value between a voltage-based parameter and a current-based parameter. The voltage-based parameter is indicative of a normalized negative voltage imbalance and the current-based parameter is indicative of a normalized negative current imbalance. A turn-to-turn winding fault is declared when the difference value is not equal to zero.

Systems and methods for detecting turn-to-turn faults in windings

An electronic device configured to switchover power from a primary source to an alternate source to maintain continuity of power supplied to a load bus. The electronic device includes one or more processors configured to identify availability of the alternate source using source monitoring in order to measure and calculate a tracking frequency for controlling a variable sampling interval of the one or more processors. The processors are configured to store signal samples and associated time stamps into a variable length buffer and store new sample values and associated new time stamps into the fixed length buffer. The processors are configured to determine attributes from samples of the alternate source using the tracking frequency. The processors are configured to execute a source switchover signal when the primary source is unavailable based by comparing load bus attributes to alternate source attributes at an estimated instance of switchover.

Method and system for high-speed power source transfer (HS-PST)

System and method for detecting turn-to-turn faults in one or more windings of various objects are provided. In one implementation, a fault detector receives a set of current measurements associated with a transformer and uses these measurements to execute a procedure for detecting a turn-to-turn fault in the transformer. The procedure can include dividing a steady-state differential current value by a steady-state voltage value to obtain one or more compensating factors, determining a magnetizing current amplitude indicator by multiplying the steady-state voltage value by the one or more compensating factors, determining a compensated differential current value by combining the steady-state differential current value with a modifier value that incorporates the magnetizing current amplitude indicator, comparing the compensated differential current value against a threshold value, and declaring an occurrence of the turn-to-turn fault in the transformer when the compensated differential current value exceeds the threshold value.
