Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for altering the behavior of an electronic personal assistant based on a situation associated with a mobile device. A situation is sensed with a plurality of sensors to generate sensor data. A situation score is calculated based on the sensor data. Behavior of an electronic personal assistant is altered based on the calculated situation score. In one aspect, the situation is a driving situation in which a driver drives a vehicle on a roadway. In such case, a driving situation score is calculated based on the sensor data, and behavior of the electronic personal assistant is altered based on the calculated driving situation score, such as suspending interactions by the electronic personal assistant with the driver to avoid the driver being distracted.

A function-oriented user interface presents users with selections related to what they want to do, rather than selections related to what tool they want to use. Functions may be dragged onto elements (data objects) or elements may be dragged onto functions to initiate activity. The elements themselves may present icons representing functions that are available such as adding a voice note or addressing to another person.

Described is a computer display arm that couples a monitor to a base in a manner facilitates display monitor movement between various positions, including preset positions that may be generally optimized to match typical computer usage modes. In one implementation, an arm, which may be an articulating arm, includes or is otherwise associated with a mechanism that guides the user, if desired, to convenient stopping positions for different types of interaction. For example, preset stopping positions may be provided for conventional (e.g., mouse and keyboard) workstation-like interaction, video (e.g., DVD movie) playback, stand-up (walk-up) touch-screen interaction, and/or for pen input, similar to a tablet computing device. Users are able to position the monitor display screen between the preset positions if desired, and also may vary the positioning at the preset and/or other stopping points, to an extent. Software such as user interface code can change to match the current position.

Methods and systems suitable for sharing media content are provided. One system includes at least one media holder, at least one media cataloger, at least one user control point, at least one media player, and at least one network operatively connecting them. The media holder is configured to selectively output shared media metadata, media content and at least one corresponding media playing license over the network. The media cataloger is configured to receive the metadata identifying the shared media content that is available from the media holder(s). The media cataloger is configured to output at least one media catalog over the network. The media catalog identifies the shared media content that is available from the media holder(s). The user control point is configured to receive the media catalog(s) and request the shared media content as selected from the media catalog, for example, by a user. The user control point configures the media player to receive the media playing license and the media content over the network. The media player cannot play protected media content without having a proper license. The license may be withheld if certain authentication criteria are not met by the playing device. In certain implementations, the network includes a Universal Plug-and-Play network that allows the various devices to quickly integrate with one another without user intervention. The network also provides a robust environment, such that, e.g., media content sharing can easily be accomplished even if the media cataloger is not available.

Methods and apparatuses for sharing media content, libraries and playlists

A wireless device communications mode selector dynamically establishes an optimal communication mode between wireless devices and/or access point, such that stations communicate directly with each other or indirectly through an existing AP depending upon which mode would yield higher throughput under present network conditions and configuration. In an embodiment of the invention, a measurement based mechanism is used to decide which communication mode is more efficient. If it is decided that direct communication is optimal, the two stations can either form an adhoc network or an STA can be dynamically configured to become a wireless repeater access point (soft AP).

A defibrillator method and apparatus wherein a patient's measured transthoracic impedance (TTI) is used to control the amount of energy contained in a defibrillation pulse applied to the patient. Prior to delivering a defibrillation pulse, the patient's TTI is measured by an impedance measuring circuit (11). The patient's TTI may also be measured during delivery of a prior defibrillation pulse. A microprocessor (23) uses the measured patient TTI to control the shape of the defibrillation pulse by controlling: (i) the phase duration of the defibrillation pulse; and (ii) the voltage level to which the defibrillator's capacitor bank (15) is charged. The defibrillation pulse shape is controlled so that the energy conveyed by the defibrillation pulse to the patient is near or exceeds a desired value. The desired value may be set by an operator via an energy selector (25). A switch (13) controls the connection of defibrillator electrodes (27a, 27b) to the impedance measuring circuit (11) and the capacitor bank (15).
