A methods, base station, wireless device and candidate relay device for supporting a D2D communication between a first wireless device and a second wireless device over a relay. The base station receives () from the first device an identity of a candidate relay wireless device and a first quality metric (Gq) pertaining to a first relay link between the first device and the candidate relay device and to a second relay link between the second device and the candidate relay device. The base station also obtains () a second quality metric (G12) pertaining to a D2D link between the first and second devices, and a third quality metric (G1 BS) pertaining to a cellular link between the base station and the first device. When the first quality metric (Gq) indicates a better link quality than both the second metric (G12) and the third metric (G1 BS), the base station selects () a relay mode for the D2D communication with the candidate relay device as the relay and instructs the involved devices accordingly.

Methods, wireless device, base station and candidate relay station for supporting D2D communication over relay

A low-complexity Radio Resource Allocation method () efficiently assigns frequency resources, such as a set of contiguous subcarriers, to Mobile Terminals in SC-FDMA uplink systems. The inventive method initially finds the resource allocation that leads to maximum efficiency in terms of transmitted data rate, without considering any resource adjacency constraint. Subsequently, the method iteratively redefines the resource allocation in order to find a resource allocation that is in accordance with resource allocation adjacency required by the SC-FDMA multiple access scheme.

Method and apparatus for resource allocation to maximize the total data rate in SC-FDMA uplink

A low-complexity, efficient Radio Resource Allocation method performed by a base station of a wireless communication network allocates a first plurality of frequency resources among a second plurality of requesting mobile terminals. Each mobile terminal employs a service such that two or more services are represented in the second plurality. The RRA method satisfies all of an exclusivity constraint that each frequency resource is allocated to only one mobile terminal, an adjacency constraint that all frequency resources allocated to any given mobile terminal are contiguous in a frequency domain, and a minimum service requirement constraint that a predetermined number of the mobile terminals employing each service be granted a required data rate. The RRA method comprises two phases: Unconstrained Maximization and Reallocation. In the Unconstrained Maximization phase, frequency resources are iteratively allocated to mobile terminals in an opportunistic way, obeying the exclusivity and adjacency constraints but without concern for the minimum service requirement constraint; the resulting allocation is tested for fulfillment of the minimum service requirement constraint; and one or more mobile terminals are removed from the allocation based on the minimum service requirement constraint test. In the Reallocation phase, frequency resources from one or more mobile terminals that have their required data rate fulfilled are reallocated to one or more mobile terminals that do not have their required data rate fulfilled.

Method and apparatus for resource allocation satisfying multiple performance constraints

A network node jointly precodes multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmissions simultaneously sent from geographically distributed base stations to a plurality of mobile terminals over associated downlink MU-MIMO channels. The node receives feedback that describes statistics of the downlink MU-MIMO channels, including channel mean and covariance. The node then computes, based on the channel means and covariances, uplink input covariances for the mobile terminals that would collectively maximize a first or second-order approximation of the ergodic capacity of dual uplink MU-MIMO channels, subject to a global transmit power constraint that comprises the sum of individual transmit power constraints for the base stations. Notably, the node adjusts the uplink input covariances as needed to satisfy the individual transmit power constraints for the base stations, maps the uplink input covariances to corresponding downlink input covariances, and jointly precodes MU-MIMO transmissions sent over the downlink MU-MIMO channels based on those downlink input covariances.

Statistical joint precoding in multi-cell, multi-user MIMO

Systems and methods are disclosed for selecting resources for direct device to device (D2D) communications in a cellular communication network. Preferably, resources for the direct D2D communications are selected to minimize, or at least substantially reduce, interference that results from the direct D2D communications in the cellular communication network. In general, either an uplink resource or a downlink resource of the cellular communication network is selected for a direct D2D communication link between a first wireless device and a second wireless device in order to minimize, or at least substantially reduce, interference caused to a third wireless device that uses the same uplink and downlink resources in the same and/or a neighboring cell of the cellular communication network.

Dynamic band selection for interference minimization in direct device to device communications

Systems and methods are disclosed for selecting resources for direct device to device communications in a cellular communication network. Preferably, resources for the direct device to device communications are selected to minimize, or at least substantially reduce, interference that results from the direct device to device communications in the cellular communication network. In one embodiment, a downlink resource of the cellular communication network is selected as a resource for a direct device to device communication link between a first wireless device and a second wireless device if at least one of the first and second wireless devices is less than a predefined threshold radio distance from a closest base station in the cellular communication network. Otherwise, an uplink resource of the cellular communication network is selected as a resource for the direct device to device communication link between the first and second wireless devices.
