A tray composite comprises a polymeric based liner including an exterior surface layer, an interior surface layer, and a formed base removably affixed to the interior surface layer of the polymeric based liner. A formed base is removably affixed to the interior surface layer of the polymeric based liner. The polymeric based liner and the formed base are manually separable after they have been removably affixed together by a first portion of the interior surface layer remaining affixed to the formed base and a second portion of the interior surface layer separating from the first portion of the interior surface layer.

Tray composite, package and method

The present invention is directed to a peel-open, non-reclosable package formed from a single thermoplastic laminate comprising a first film laminated to a second film by a lamination film or lamination layer. The package includes a peelable heat-seal seam adhering an interior surface of a first sealing section of the interior package surface to an interior surface of a second sealing section of the interior package surface. The package also includes an asymmetric cross-sectional seal interface formed at the peelable heat-seal seam by disjoining a segment of the first film from the first sealing section prior to heat sealing the first and second sealing sections together.

The present invention is directed to flexible peelable/reseatable packages uniquely well suited for packaging convenience foods such as processed meats, cheeses and the like. The packages include a peelable/resealable interface formed from a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) which permit the packages to be re-sealed after their initial opening. There is also an absorbent non-woven strip which is inserted between the first and second wall panels near the PSA interface. During the opening of the package when the wall panels are forced apart in opposite directions, the absorbent non-woven strip cohesively ruptures and at least a portion of the strip remains bonded to each wall panel after the package has been opened. The absorbent non-woven strip absorbs water and/or fats, grease and oils from the food products before these materials can contaminate the PSA interface.

The present invention relates to improved manually openable self-venting ovenable packages which include a rigid or semi-rigid tray having a single thermoplastic overwrap comprising a polymeric laminate surrounding the tray and having a front panel and an opposing back panel. The inventive packages also include a continuous seal circumscribing a recessed cavity of the tray which comprises a heat seal formed by heat sealing a portion of the front panel to the peripheral flange of the tray. The packages of the present invention are self-venting whereby a venting region comprising a release coating applied between the inner surface of the front panel and the inner surface of the back panel permits the overwrap to rupture and release steam in response to heat and/or overpressure generated during heating of a food item in a microwave oven. The inventive packages also includes a manual tear opening feature provided by at least one line of weakness in the front panel positioned between the peelable seal and the first side edge of the front panel. The tear opening feature is configured to permit partial or complete removal of the overwrap from the tray.

The present disclosure is concerned with forming and non-forming webs with improved puncture resistance suitable for use in semi-automatic horizontal form fill and seal (HFFS) packaging machines and a process for packaging hard food items with sharp angular surfaces using such webs in such machines. The webs have a double wall partially laminated structure. The structure is conveniently formed by adhesively laminating two component films in a face to face configuration using a pattern of adhesive which leaves a substantial portion of the two facing surfaces unlaminated. The lamination just needs to be sufficient that the two component films will hot form together when they are vacuum drawn into a die to form a cavity for packaging the food items. The webs comprise at least a first thermoplastic component film having substantial stored shrink forces and a second thermoplastic component film having no substantial stored shrink forces.

The present invention relates to peelable resealable multilayer films which include at least a first thermoplastic layer of an anhydride-modified polyolefin, a second thermoplastic layer of an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and a third thermoplastic layer of a tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive. The bond formed between a second layer of ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and a third layer of a tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive creates a peelable resealable interface having a first interfacial peel strength, A, and a second interfacial peel strength, B.

The present invention relates to peelable resealable multilayer films which include at least a first polymer layer, a second polymer layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive in direct contact with and bonded to both the first and third layers. The bond formed between the second and third layers includes a peelable resealable interface having a first interfacial peel strength, A, and a second interfacial peel strength, B. The peelable resealable interface includes a first interfacial peel strength, A, having a value of less than 3500 gram-force/inch (1350 newton/meter) as measured in accordance with ASTM F-904-98 test method when the films of the present invention are peeled from a second thermoplastic film to which the film has been heat-sealed. The second interfacial peel strength, B, has a value of at 400 gram-force/inch (154 newton/meter) as measured in accordance with ASTM F-904-98 test method when the films are peeled from and re-adhered to a second film.
