A method and system for color mapping digital visual content for improved viewing by a color vision deficient observer includes receiving the digital visual content to be color mapped, clustering color values of the digital visual content into a plurality of color clusters, assigning each color cluster to a respective one of a set of target color values in which the set of target color values have increased visual distinguishability for the color vision deficient observer; and for each color cluster, mapping the color values of the color cluster to the target color value, thereby generating a color-mapped digital visual content. One or more regions of interest of the content can be identified and the color mapping may be applied onto to those regions of interest.

System and method for color mapping for improved viewing by a color vision deficient observer

A system and method is provided for color matching two or more electronic displays of a display system. The method includes: obtaining first and second spectral response readings for first and second electronic displays from spectral response device(s); determining first and second spectral response curves based on the first and second spectral response readings; determining first and second spectral power distributions based on the first and second spectral response readings; determining a first device-to-independent color mapping based on the first spectral response curve and the first spectral power distribution; determining a second device-to-independent color mapping based on the second spectral response curve and the second spectral power distribution; and configuring a display system having the first electronic display and the second electronic display to match colors being displayed based on using the first device-to-independent color mapping and the second device-to-independent color mapping.

A method for processing an input image having an initial gamut to a targeted image having a wider gamut for display on a wide-gamut display includes determining a set of color scaling factors based on different parameters including one or more user-related characteristics of a user and the available gamut of the wide-gamut display device, applying a gamut-mapping to the input image based on the available gamut to generate a gamut-mapped image and applying the set of color scaling factors to the gamut-mapped image to generate the targeted image. A user device having a wide-gamut display device also includes an image processing module configured for performing the method for processing the input image.

A method for processing an image for display on a wide-gamut display includes receiving a viewer's characteristic, determining a set of color scaling factors based on the characteristic, and applying the set of color scaling factors to adjust a white point of the image.

A system and method for color retargeting of an image includes applying a color appearance model to the image to be displayed based in part on a first luminance level. The color appearance model outputs a first set of color responses representing a simulated version of the image at the first luminance level. A color compensation model is further applied to the first set of color responses based in part on a second luminance level. The color compensation model outputs a second set of color responses representing a compensated version of the image. The compensated version of the image may be displayed on a display device set at the second luminance level. At least one of the color appearance model and the color compensation model applies rod-intrusion correction.
