An elevator system includes a plurality of elevator cars, an elevator controller communicatively coupled to the plurality of elevator cars. The elevator controller is configured to generate a signal to a first elevator car for indicating an elevator call to the first elevator car. The first elevator car is configured to, in response to a receipt of the signal, initiate a communication with at least one second elevator car for receiving information relating to a status of the at least one second elevator car, and in response to a receipt of the information, generate a control signal with respect to serving the elevator call received by the first elevator car. A method for controlling an elevator car in the elevator system is also disclosed.

According to an aspect, there is provided a method for elevator call allocation in an elevator system. The method comprises receiving charge information associated with an energy storage of an elevator car from each of a plurality of elevator cars of the elevator system; receiving an elevator call to a floor providing a charging arrangement for the energy storages; and allocating the elevator call to an elevator car of the plurality of elevator cars at least partly based on the charge information received from each of the plurality of elevator cars.

The purpose of the invention is to detect a failure situation wherein the machinery brake of an elevator does not open sufficiently. In the method for testing failure of a machinery brake of an elevator, the machinery brake is controlled to open. After this, the traction sheave is oscillated with a test torque, the movement of the elevator machine is measured in connection with the oscillation, and if the machine does not move in connection with the oscillation, it is deduced that the machinery brake has not opened and has therefore failed.

An arrangement implements the method.
