Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to implement cooling fans with selectively activated vibration modes are disclosed. An example cooling fan assembly includes a motor and a fan coupled to a shaft of the motor. The motor is to rotate the shaft in a first direction to cause the fan to move air. The motor is to rotate the shaft in a second direction to cause vibration from an eccentric mass coupled to the shaft.

A gas detection device includes an enclosure having an interior chamber, an audio loudspeaker in acoustic communication with the interior chamber of the enclosure, and a gas sensor configured to detect a gas within the interior chamber of the enclosure. The device may include a ventilation port configured to permit two-way gaseous communication between the interior chamber and an atmosphere external to the enclosure, where the atmosphere comprises the gas. The audio loudspeaker is configured to generate a pressure within the interior chamber. The pressure causes a portion of the external atmosphere to be drawn into the interior chamber via the ventilation port. The gas sensor may include an emitter and a receiver. The gas detection device can be integrated into a mobile electronic device, such as a smartphone or tablet computer.

Techniques for wireless charging are described herein. For example, an apparatus includes a device formed in a loop. The apparatus may also include a receiving coil disposed around an entire length of the loop. Each turn of the wireless power receiving coil follows the entire length of the loop.

Systems and methods enhancing loudspeaker audio performance in thin devices, such as mobile computing platforms and/or communication handsets. In some embodiments, a laminate panel including a dielectric membrane and one or more conductive traces forming an inductive loop suitable wireless charging and/or near field communication (NFC) element is employed as a loudspeaker driven at audio frequencies. In some embodiments, the laminate panel is driven with one or more piezoelectric element. In some embodiments, the laminate panel is of a stiffness and mass to provide a frequency response distinct from that of integrated micro-speakers for a 2.1 audio solution with wider bandwidth than is possible with micro-speakers employing back-side cavities. In some embodiments, the frequency spectrum spanned by the laminate panel loudspeaker enables a tweeter design lacking back-side cavities for smaller device form factor. In some ultra-small form factors, micro-speakers may be eliminated from the platform with the laminate panel providing the only loudspeaker diaphragm for the mobile platform.

An elastic shield comprising an acoustic channel having a sound inlet and a sound outlet, and a hollow portion being adapted to at least partly surround a miniature microphone, or alternatively, arranged to follow an outer contour of a miniature microphone. The present invention further relates to a miniature microphone assembly comprising a miniature microphone having a sound inlet, and an elastic shield comprising an acoustic channel having a sound inlet and a sound outlet, the elastic shield further comprising a hollow portion housing at least part of the miniature microphone in a manner so that the sound outlet of the acoustic channel is aligned with the sound inlet of the miniature microphone.

In one exemplary embodiment, an apparatus includes: a first substrate having an aperture adapted to receive an acoustic signal; a microphone comprising a plate connected to the first substrate and a movable member connected to the first substrate, where the microphone is adapted to transduce the received acoustic signal into an electrical signal; a second substrate connected to the first substrate; at least one wall connected to the first substrate and the second substrate such that the at least one wall, the first substrate, the second substrate and the microphone define an interior cavity; and an electrical component on the second substrate and electrically coupled to the microphone, where the electrical component is configured to generate an output based on the electrical signal.

The invention concerns a transducer device and assembly. A transducer device and assembly according to the invention comprise sheet of electrical insulator covering connection pads of a transducer component. The sheet of electrical insulator has on its surface connection pads that have galvanic contacts with the connection pads of the transducer component. Inside or on a surface of the sheet of electrical insulator there are electrical conductors connected with the connection pads of the sheet of electrical insulator. With the aid of the sheet of electrical insulator equipped with the connection pads and electrical conductors the transducer component can be mounted to a wiring board in a desired orientation, i.e. the connection pads of the transducer component do not need to be against the wiring board.
