In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method, including receiving data for transmission over a physical link, acquiring information about the data transmission, setting physical layer link adaptation parameters for the transmission based on the acquired information, wherein the setting includes adjusting the physical layer link adaptation parameters separately for transmission in an application data transfer direction and an application feedback direction. Also, the present invention provides a correspondingly adapted device and computer program product.

Method and apparatus for physical layer link adaptation based on traffic properties

A receiver for use in a wireless communication system, for example a mobile phone system, the receiver having a plurality of fingers which can each receive signals from a different propagation path and can estimate the channel coherence time for the propagation path used by signals received by the respective finger. The receiver also has filtering circuity the operation of which is altered in dependence on the estimated coherence time.

In a data transmission method and system, user signals are transmitted wirelessly, and a maximum delay for the system has been defined. The system includes circuitry at the transmitting end for sequentially performing an outer and inner coding on the signals to be transmitted, and circuitry for performing a first interleaving after the outer coding. The interleaving length of the first interleaving is chosen within the scope of the maximum delay defined for the system. To ensure improved performance, the system includes circuitry for performing a second interleaving after the inner coding, and the interleaving length of the second interleaving is substantially equal to the interleaving length of the first interleaving.

Data transmission method and system

The present invention relates to a diversity method in a radio system in which fadeouts are slow, such as a WLL system. The duration of fadeouts is typically in the magnitude of seconds. A radio receiver (4) according to the present invention is characterized in that the expected quality of a signal is predicted (9) for a specific interval to come based on the measured quality of the signal, and a signal is selected (3) based on the predicted quality of the signal. In a time-divided digital system, the quality of a signal is measured from a burst and the quality of the signal is predicted for several frames ahead, for example for 10 frames, based on the measured quality of said burst and one or more bursts preceeding said burst. The predicted quality is compared with a long-term weighted average, which may be the average over 50 frames, for example. If the predicted quality is below the weighted average, the signal is changed.
