An upper node is provided for use in a wireless communication system using a relay scheme. The upper node includes means for transmitting, upon a request of a lower relay station for an initial connection of the lower relay station, downlink section information for communication with the lower relay station for a relay service to the lower relay station; and means for transmitting, after the initial connection with the lower relay station, frame configuration information for communication with the lower relay station for a relay service to the lower relay station through the downlink section. The downlink section information includes configuration information of the downlink section for communication with the lower relay station for a relay service.

Apparatus and method for transmitting frame information in multi-hop relay broadband wireless access communication system

An apparatus is capable of supporting an intra-BS handover of a Mobile Station (MS) that can distinguish a Relay Station (RS) and a Base Station (BS) in a multi-hop relay broadband wireless communication system. A handover of an MS in a multi-hop relay wireless communication system includes receiving a neighbor advertisement message. When a handover command message that initiates a handover to a target node is received, information on a target node is acquired, and an upper BS of the target node is identified. When the identified upper BS of the target node is the same as an upper BS of the serving node, control information that has been previously used in a serving node is used in the target node, and communication with the target node is performed.

Apparatus and method for supporting intra-base station handover in a multi-hop relay broadband wireless communication system

An apparatus and a method for Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) feedback in a wireless communication system are provided. A method for the ARQ feedback at a receiving end includes when receiving an ARQ block from the transmitting end, checking for error in the ARQ block, when the ARQ block has no error, initializing and driving a timer used for determining whether to perform the ARQ feedback according to reception of a next ARQ block, when receiving the next ARQ block without error before the timer expires, initializing and driving the timer, and when the timer expires, performing the ARQ feedback in relation to at least one ARQ block received without error.

An apparatus and method for supporting heterogeneous systems in a multi-hop relay wireless communication system are provided. It is checked whether an Acknowledgement (ACK) message or a Negative ACK (NACK) message for data is received from a Relay Station (RS), which receives the data from a Mobile Station (MS). An apparatus and a method for sending a control information for retransmission in a multihop relay wireless communication system are provided. Data received from a lower node is checked for errors. The data is transmitted to an upper node, when the data has no errors. When two or more information, which include at least one of Acknowledgement (ACK) and Negative ACK (NACK) in response to a data reception are received from one or more lower nodes, the two or more information are transmitted to the upper node at the same time. Accordingly, the RS can transmit the control information for the ARQ provided from the lower nodes, to the upper node at the same time.
