A multilayer tube is provided for use in with transmission oil or heating and cooling fluid applications in motor vehicles. The multilayer tube has an outer layer comprising an aliphatic or an aromatic polyamide to provide protection from the outside environment; a middle layer of a lower cost material that comprises from 20-90% of the thickness of the tube materials; and an inner layer that has excellent resistance to transmission oil or glycol coolant and temperature.

Multilayer tube for automotive applications

A reinforced, high pressure hose is disclosed for use in the transport of high pressure fluids. The hose includes a multilayered inner tube capable of prolonged exposure to fluids such as those containing hydrocarbons, and a reinforcement layer overlaying the inner tube. The reinforcement layer includes at least one reinforcement strip wrapped about the inner tube and with the edges of the strip in an overlying relationship.

Reinforced, high pressure, low permeation multilayer hose

A multi-layer tubing composed of a first layer, a second layer and an intermediate layer interposed between the first layer and the second layer. The first layer contains a first melt-processible thermoplastic such as polyamides, thermoplastic elstomers, and mixtures such materials. The second layer contains a second melt-processible thermoplastic chemically dissimilar form the melt-processible thermoplastic employed in the first layer. The intermediate layer is made of a solidified melt-processible thermoplastic solution which contains the first melt-processible thermoplastic and the second thermoplastic such that the first thermoplastic and the second thermoplastic exist as discretely discernable components dispersed relative to one another in an essentially non-homogenous manner.

Low cost, low permeation multi-layer tubing

A corrosion resistant tube comprises a metal tube having an outer surface. A zinc layer is electrostatically bonded to the outer surface, wherein the zinc layer is selected from the group consisting of powdered zinc, powdered zinc nickel alloys, powdered zinc cobalt alloys, and powdered zinc aluminum alloys. One or more polymeric layers may be electrostatically bonded to the zinc layer, or to a surface treatment layer, wherein the polymeric layer(s) comprises powdered thermoplastic materials selected from the group consisting of powdered nylons, powdered fluoropolymers, powdered polyesters, and mixtures thereof. Optionally, the polymeric layer(s) may be electrostatically bonded directly to the outer surface. A process for producing corrosion resistant tubing may also contain the steps of electrostatically charging aerated particles of a powdered material in a fluidizing chamber and conveying grounded metal tubing through the charged particles, thereby uniformly coating the tubing outer surface, and heating the coated tubing.

Corrosion resistant powder coated metal tube and process for making the same

A multi-layer tube for use in a motor vehicle system to transport fluids containing hydrocarbons such as would be found in a fuel line, a vapor return line or a vapor recovery tube having a first layer radially disposed innermost made up of an extrudable melt-processible thermoplastic material capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to automotive fuel and various fuel additives, and second layer made up of an extrudable, melt-processible non-polyester, non-alcoholic thermoplastic material capable of sufficiently permanent laminar connection with the first layer so as to prevent delamination between the first and second layers during a desired lifetime of the tube. The thermoplastic material of the second layer is made up of at least one constituent which is chemically dissimilar from the thermoplastic material employed in the first layer such as a melt-processible compound having at least two isocyanate groups in combination with a compound which is chemically similar to the thermoplastic material of the first layer such as a thermoplastic elastomer, or a polyamide. The tubing of the present invention may, optionally, include additional layers interposed between the respective layers or may include additional layers which overlie the exterior surface of the second layer.

A multi-layer tube comprises a metal tube having an outer surface and a zinc layer bonded to the metal tube outer surface, wherein the zinc layer is selected from the group consisting of zinc plating, zinc nickel alloys, zinc cobalt alloys, zinc aluminum alloys, and mixtures thereof. A surface treatment layer is bonded to the zinc layer, wherein the surface treatment layer is selected from the group consisting of a zinc/aluminum/rare earth alloy, phosphate, chromate and mixtures thereof. A first polymeric layer is bonded to the surface treatment layer, wherein the first polymeric layer is selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic elastomer, an ionomer, a nylon, a fluoropolymer, and mixtures thereof. A second polymeric layer is bonded to the first polymeric layer, wherein the second polymeric layer is selected from the group consisting of a nylon, a thermoplastic elastomer, a fluoropolymer, and mixtures thereof. A process for manufacturing a multi-layer tubing for conveying fluids in a vehicle system comprises the step of extruding multiple layers of a melt-processible thermoplastic to a pretreated metal tube having an external surface with at least a zinc based coating and a sealant coating on top of the zinc based coating.

Process for manufacturing tubing having a metal layer with an external surface overlaying by multiple plastic layers bonded thereto

A quick connect coupling connects a first fluid conduit to a second fluid conduit. The quick connect coupling includes a first single or multi-layer tube which is either metal or plastic and has a wall expanded radially outwardly adjacent a longitudinal end to define an integrally formed female portion of the coupling. The expanded end has at least two apertures extending through the wall adjacent the longitudinal end of the tube. A second tube which is either metal or plastic and has a first end with a radially outwardly projecting annular flange spaced longitudinally from the first end. An elongated housing member has an outer periphery engageable within the expanded end of the first tube and has an aperture extending longitudinally therethrough for fluid communication between the first and second tubes. The housing member has an enlarged inner diameter for receiving the first end of the second tube therein. Sealing members are carried by the housing member and are insertable within the expanded end of the first tube with the elongated housing member. A lock member holds the elongated housing member in place within the expanded end of the first tube and operably engages with the apertures formed through the wall of the expand end of the first tube and the outwardly protruding annular flange of the second tube. An optional internal check valve can be provided within the elongated housing member.
