In one aspect, a method for detecting an object and/or managing an inventory will be described. A motion of an object is detected at a storage structure. One or more images are acquired of at least a part of the object. A direction of the motion of the object is determined. An object is identified based on the one or more images. In various embodiments, an inventory for the storage structure is updated based on the motion direction determination and the object identity.

Object recognition for a storage structure

A system and method in a mobile device for controlling a connected device is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving an image; processing the image to identify at least a first image attribute where the first image attribute includes an image feature or an image object; accessing a database of connected devices, each connected device in the database being identified by a linked image and being associated with device metadata describing at least a device type of the connected device; comparing the first image attribute with the linked images corresponding to the connected devices stored in the database; identifying a first connected device having a linked image matching the first image attribute; and in response to the identifying, providing a user interface configured to control the first connected device, the user interface including a control function corresponding to the device type of the first connected device.

System and method for providing customized connected device functionality and for operating a connected device via an alternate object

A multi-modal display device is presented. The display device has a shell having an internal projection screen and an opening, a projector emitting a projection beam from inside the shell. There is an optical guide adjusting a position of the projector to aim the projection beam at either the internal projection screen or the opening. A processor coupled to the optical guide may select a display position, wherein different display positions are associated with different display area sizes. The method includes determining a distance between a projector and a user, and automatically selecting a display mode based on the distance.

Multi-modal projection display

A device for interacting with a user is presented. The device includes a target area, a sensor coupled to the target area, wherein the sensor detects whether a human is present in a predefined proximity region and detects a direction of visual attention given by the human in the predefined proximity region, a processor coupled to the sensor and making a determination that the user's visual attention is in a direction of the target area for a minimum visual contact period, and an input engine that is activated based on the determination.
