IrOcatalysts and methods of use thereof

Embodiments relate to a method and system for power demand shaping (PDS) so as to manage power generation and use. Specific embodiments relate to data center power demand shaping to achieve high-performance low-overhead data center operation. Specific embodiments can incorporate standard (utility power) energy sources, renewable energy sources, or a combination of standard (utility power) energy sources and renewable energy sources. Embodiments of the subject PDS techniques can incorporate trimming the data center load power so as to allow DG systems to follow the power demand efficiently and/or incorporate two adaptive load tuning schemes that can boost data center performance and enable near-oracle operation during power demand trimming process. To implement a cross-layer power optimization scheme, embodiments of the subject invention relate to a power management module that can reside between front-end distributed generation and back-end computing facilities to provide a coordinated tuning between the supply and load.

Method and apparatus for power management using distributed generation

A system and method for storage resource management using copy-on-write/read snapshots to redirect the I/O requests without moving the virtual disk is disclosed herein. The system includes storage pools, a virtualized server, and a centralized data center management server. The virtualized server includes a base disk and a virtualized disk having a copy-on-write and a copy-on-read snapshot process responsive to an I/O request that merges a previous snapshot stored on a first one of the plurality storage pools with the base disk stored on a second one of the plurality of storage pools, while it fetches a new snapshot to be stored on a third one of the plurality of storage pools from the previous snapshot or the base virtual disk. Method and apparatus for big data cloud storage resource management

Various examples are provided for renewable energy control. In one example, among others, a system includes a PV source, a multi-core processor load, and a solar power manager configured to adjust an operating point of the PV source about a maximum power point by dynamically adjusting a transfer ratio and a load level. In another example, a method includes sensing an output current supplied to a multi-core processor load by a power converter at a first transfer ratio, sensing another output current supplied at a second transfer ratio, and determining an operating point of the PV source with respect to a maximum power point based upon the output currents. In another example, a system includes a power manager configured to switch servers between a renewable energy supply and a utility energy supply based at least in part upon a budget level and the load power consumption.

Renewable energy control systems and methods

Embodiments pertain to live storage migration for virtual machines. Specific embodiments can implement the migration of VM disk images without service interruption to the running workload. Specific embodiments relate to storage migration between different disk arrays. Embodiments of the subject invention relate to a method and apparatus that can enhance the efficiency of virtual machine (VM) live storage migration in heterogeneous storage environments from a multi-dimensional perspective, e.g., user experience, device wearing, and/or manageability. Specific embodiments utilize one or more of the following: adaptive storage migration strategies, or techniques, such as 1) Low Redundancy (LR), which generates a reduced, and preferably the least, amount of redundant writes; 2) Source-based Low Redundancy (SLR), which can help keep a desirable balance between IO performance and write redundancy; and 3) Asynchronous IO Mirroring (AIO), which seeks high, and preferably the highest, IO performance. Specific embodiments adaptively mix one or more of these adaptive storage migration techniques during massive VM live storage migration.

Method and apparatus for virtual machine live storage migration in heterogeneous storage environment

A data structure is provided for storing network contact information based on an array of physical memory locations. Virtual vectors are constructed for each source, wherein each element in each virtual vector is assigned to a corresponding physical memory location within the array. The physical memory locations are shared between the virtual vectors uniformly at random so that the noise introduced by sharing can be predicted and removed. A method for storing network contact information is also provided in which a hash function is performed using the address of a source host to find a virtual vector for holding information about the source host. A second hash function is performed using the address of a destination host to find a virtual memory location, within the virtual vector, for holding information about the destination host. Finally, information is stored at a physical memory location assigned to the virtual memory location. Estimation range enhancement is further provided by performing multiple estimations with different sampling probabilities and selecting a best estimation based on a maximum likelihood method.
