A coating composition for a base paper is described. The coating composition comprises a porous clay and an ink pigment fixation agent. The porous clay comprises an alumina-silicate, and has a surface area from 100 m2/g to 400 m2/g.

Coating composition for printing paper

The present disclosure is drawn to coated print media, methods of making coated print media, and methods of printing. In one example, a coated print medium can include a substrate, a base coating layer on the substrate, and a top coating layer on the base coating layer. The base coating layer can include an inorganic pigment, a binder, and a fixing agent. The top coating layer can include polyvinyl alcohol and polymer nanobeads having a gloss transition temperature from 70&#xb0; C. to 350&#xb0; C. The polyvinyl alcohol and polymer nanobeads can be included at from 50 wt % to 100 wt % by dry weight of the top coating layer.

Recording media

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a crosslinkable polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

Primer compositions

According to an example, a recording medium may include a substrate; a first coating including an inorganic pigment, a first binder, and a fixative agent; and a second coating including inorganic nanoparticles and a second binder; in which the inorganic pigment may be a plate-shaped pigment.

Recording medium

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

A printable recording media comprising a supporting base substrate and a coating layer that contains a fixative agent and a binder system including a combination of water soluble binder and water dispersible binder. Also, described herein, is a method for making said printable recording media.

Printable recording media

An example of a printable recording medium includes a base substrate and an ink-receiving layer. The ink-receiving layer includes an inorganic pigment in an amount equal to or greater than 70 wt % and an ink-fixing agent in an amount ranging from about 3 wt % to about 10 wt % based on the total wt % of the ink-receiving layer. The inorganic pigment has a median particle size ranging from about 0.5 &#x3bc;m to about 5 &#x3bc;m. The ink-receiving layer excludes precipitated calcium carbonate.

Printable recording medium

An example of a printable recording medium includes a base substrate, a first ink-receiving layer, and a second ink-receiving layer. The first ink-receiving layer includes a first inorganic pigment in an amount equal to or greater than 70 wt % and a first ink-fixing agent in an amount ranging from about 3 wt % to about 10 wt % based on a total wt % of the first ink-receiving layer. The second ink-receiving layer includes a second inorganic pigment. Both the first ink-receiving layer and the second ink-receiving layer exclude precipitated calcium carbonate.

The present disclosure is drawn to a recording medium including a substrate, a first coating applied to the substrate, and a second coating applied to the first coating. The first coating can include inorganic pigment, fixative agent, and a first binder. The second coating can include inorganic nanoparticles, aluminum silicate, and a second binder.

The present disclosure relates to an inkjet printing process that comprises applying a radiation-curable primer composition onto a substrate to form a primer layer. The primer composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. An inkjet ink composition is inkjet printed onto the primer layer as a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. The curable polyurethane is dispersed in the inkjet ink composition in an amount of composition is 0.1 to 30 weight % of the inkjet ink composition. The printed inkjet ink layer is cured on the substrate by exposing both the primer layer and printed inkjet ink layer on the substrate to radiation.

Inkjet printing

The present disclosure is drawn to image-receiving compositions that can include an aqueous liquid vehicle and solids dispersed in the aqueous liquid vehicle. The solids can include from 60 wt % to 94 wt % pigment filler, from 0.5 wt % to 15 wt % multivalent salt, from 1 wt % to 10 wt % water-soluble polymer, from 2 wt % to 15 wt % latex, and from 2 wt % to 15 wt % synthetic micronized cellulose. The synthetic micronized cellulose can have a bulk density of from 150 grams per liter to 200 grams per liter, and a surface area of 0.1 m/g to 10 m/g.

Image-receiving compositions

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a polyvinyl alcohol, a cationic salt, and water. The polyvinyl alcohol can have a weight average molecular weight from about 50,000 Mw to about 250,000 Mw. The cationic salt can be present in an amount of at least 15 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition. The polyvinyl alcohol and cationic salt together can make up at least 30 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition.

An inkjet printer can include an inkjet printhead to print an image on a print medium, and a dryer to reduce or remove moisture from the image. A post-printing treatment fluid can also be present which can include water and a flatness control agent, the flatness control agent including an organic solvent with three or more hydroxyl groups, and a vapor pressure less than 2&#xd7;10mmHg. A fluid dispenser can be included to apply the post-printing treatment fluid on the print medium after the moisture from the image is reduced or removed. Additionally, the printer can include a mechanical calendering device to apply pressure to the print medium after application and while the print medium is still moistened by the post-printing treatment fluid.

Inkjet printers

A coated print medium can include a base stock having a basis weight of 35 gsm to 250 gsm, and a coating layer applied to the base stock at from 1 gsm to 50 gsm by dry weight. The base stock can include from 65 wt % to 95 wt % cellulose fiber with 20 wt % to 100 wt % being mechanical pulp, and from 5 wt % to 35 wt % inorganic pigment filler. The coating layer can include inorganic pigment particles having an average equivalent spherical diameter from 0.2 &#x3bc;m to 3.5 &#x3bc;m; a fixative agent including metal salt, cationic amine polymer, quaternary ammonium salt, quaternary phosphonium salt, or mixture thereof; and a polymer blend including water soluble polymer and water dispersible polymer having a Zeta potential greater than &#x2212;40 mV, wherein a weight ratio water soluble polymer to water dispersible polymer is from 1:25 to 1:1.

Coated print media

A coated print medium can include a base stock having a basis weight of 35 gsm to 250 gsm, and a coating layer applied to the base stock at from 1 gsm to 50 gsm by dry weight. The base stock can include from 65 wt % to 95 wt % cellulose fiber with 80 wt % to 100 wt % being chemical pulp, and from 5 wt % to 35 wt % inorganic pigment filler. The coating layer can include inorganic pigment particles having an average equivalent spherical diameter from 0.2 &#x3bc;m to 3.5 &#x3bc;m; a fixative agent including metal salt, cationic amine polymer, quaternary ammonium salt, quaternary phosphonium salt, or mixture thereof; and a polymer blend including water soluble polymer and water dispersible polymer having a Zeta potential greater than &#x2212;40 mV, wherein a weight ratio water soluble polymer to water dispersible polymer is from 1:25 to 1:1.
