A lockable child-resistant, senior-friendly package of the sleeve-and-drawer style may be utilised for in healthcare type applications for the unit dose dispensing of pharmaceutical tablets, capsules and lozenges; in consumer good packaging applications for items such as food, recreational drugs (e.g., tobaccos, cigars, cigarettes, etc.), toys, hardware, and electrical items, or the like; and in security package applications to deter package pilferage for small high-value items, such as consumer electronics. The sleeve-and-drawer style package has an internal slidable lockable receptacle, having a two-part locking mechanism and an improved release mechanism.

Lockable packaging and a release mechanism therefor

A carton for packaging one or more articles includes a plurality of walls including a top wall, a base wall, a first side wall and a second side wall forming a tubular structure. One of the plurality of walls includes a handle structure defined in it. The handle structure includes a grip member struck from one of the plurality of walls and a handle strap. The grip member is mounted on the handle strap. A first aperture is struck from the one of the plurality of walls. The aperture is disposed adjacent to a first end of the grip member so as to define a first end edge of the grip member. The first aperture defines a portion of an opening in the one of the plurality of walls. In the opening, a portion of the handle strap may be received.

Carton and carton blank

A carton includes panels for forming a tubular structure. The panels include a top panel (), a base panel () and a pair of first and second opposed side panels () hingedly interconnecting the top and base panels. The carton includes at least one end closure panel () forming an end wall which at least partially closes a first end of the tubular structure. The carton includes a dispenser for facilitating access to the carton contents. The dispenser includes a first severance line () and a second severance line () each defined in one () of the panels forming the tubular structure. A third severance line () and a fourth severance line () are each defined in the end wall. The first and second severance line are divergently arranged with respect to each other. The third and fourth severance line are divergently arranged with respect to each other.

A package includes an outer sleeve () and a lockable receptacle (). The package has a two-part locking mechanism for locking the lockable receptacle within the outer sleeve. The package also has a release mechanism including a moveable tab () that may be depressed to cause the two-part locking mechanism to be unlocked as well as to case the lockable receptacle to be at least partially withdrawn from the outer sleeve. The moveable tab is oriented at a non-normal angle relative to a lateral axis (x) of the outer sleeve. The non-normal angle is defined as a first angle (&#x3b1;) between the lateral axis and a notional axis (C) which runs centrally of the moveable tab through the anchored portion and to a medial point (M) of the front edge.
