An Event Streams 'event' which contains information about ads is sent via ATSC 3.0 to a receiver player along with an xlinkResolution signal. This information includes but is not limited to time stamps for when the ads will start and stop. When this xlinkResolution is sent to the receiver player, the receiver player sends a notification to a broadcaster app containing the information about start and stop time for presenting the ad. Using this information, the broadcaster app updates itself so that, for example, the broadcaster app can present a message on a user interface regarding the subject of the ad, or present content related to but different from the ad along with the ad itself.

A media rendering device and method for scan of channels on the media rendering device is provided. The media rendering device determines a first geographical region associated with a location of the media rendering device. A first set of over-the-air (OTA) channels may be communicated in the first geographical region. The media rendering device determines a second geographical region within a threshold distance from the location of the media rendering device. A second set of OTA channels may be communicated in the second geographical region. The media rendering device receives a first user input to scan the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels, and configures the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels on the media rendering device, based on the scan of the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels.

An electronic device and method are provided for display of a programming guide for content associated with broadcaster and VOD applications. The electronic device receives a DTV signal that include programming content items associated with broadcaster applications on the electronic device and extracts a set of in-band metadata associated with programming content items. The electronic device selects a set of VOD assets offered by at least one VOD application on the electronic device and extracts a set of out-of-band metadata associated with the programming content items and the selected set of VOD assets from at least one metadata source. The electronic device parses the set of in-band metadata and the set of out-of-band metadata and combines such parsed sets of metadata into a unified metadata file based on a master template. Based on the unified metadata file, the electronic device controls a display device to render a programming guide.
