A power system for a work vehicle includes an intake arrangement for intake of charge air; a fuel arrangement including a fuel tank storing a low carbon fuel blend; an engine configured to receive, ignite, and combust a mixture of the charge air and the low carbon fuel blend; an exhaust arrangement positioned downstream to receive exhaust from the engine during combustion of the low carbon fuel blend; at least one exhaust sensor positioned at or proximate to the exhaust arrangement; and a controller. The controller is configured to receive an initial indication of a composition of the low carbon fuel blend; implement operating parameters with feedforward adjustments based on the initial indication of the composition of the low carbon fuel blend; receive feedback from the at least one exhaust sensor regarding operational conditions; and adjust the operating parameters based on the feedback.

Work vehicle power system with low carbon fuel blends

An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas pathway that receives exhaust gas from the engine, a temperature sensor configured to generate a temperature signal associated with a temperature of the exhaust gas at a position along the exhaust gas pathway, and a reductant source. The system also includes first and second injectors in fluid communication with the reductant source. The first and second injectors are configured to inject reductant into the exhaust gas pathway at first and second rates. The system also includes a first treatment element positioned downstream of the first injector and within the exhaust gas pathway, and a controller in communication with the temperature sensor. The controller is configured to receive the temperature signal from the temperature sensor and adjust at least one of the first rate or the second rate based at least in part on the temperature signal.

Method for regulating exhaust emissions

Systems and methods of controlling operation of a diesel engine using feedforward load anticipation. An electronic controller determines a difference between an actual engine speed value of the diesel engine and a desired engine speed value, and generates a feedback control command based on the determined difference. In response to detecting one or more conditions indicative of an anticipated mechanical load event that will alter a total mechanical load of the diesel engine, the electronic controller applies a feedforward offset to the feedback control command in accordance with a feedback offset function. The feedback offset function causes the magnitude of the feedback offset to decrease over a period of time until the offset returns to zero (i.e., a signal decay function). The diesel engine is then operated based on the feedback control command and the feedforward offset.

System for regulating exhaust emissions

An engine includes an exhaust gas system which flows exhaust gasses through an aftertreatment device. A method is provided for detecting the aftertreatment device during a transient operating condition. The method includes sensing temperature of the exhaust gas at an inlet and at an outlet of exhaust aftertreatment system. The inlet temperature is filtered and an inlet temperature difference between the filtered and unfiltered inlet temperatures is calculated. If the absolute value of the inlet temperature difference is greater than the predetermined threshold, then an outlet temperature difference is calculated. If the absolute value of the outlet temperature difference is greater than the second threshold, then a fault signal is generated, indicating that an aftertreatment device is missing. The aftertreatment device includes an SCR catalyst and an ammonia oxidation catalyst.

Catalytic device detection system

A method for injecting a reductant into an exhaust gas of a power system. The method includes oscillating injections of the reductant between a higher reductant injection rate and a lower reductant injection rate. The higher injection rate is high enough to result in storage of a decomposed form of the reductant on a selective catalytic reduction on-filter ('SCR+F'), and the lower injection rate being low enough to result in depletion of the decomposed form of the reductant on the SCR+F. The SCR+F includes a diesel particular filter and a selective catalytic reduction catalyst applied thereto.

An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas pathway configured to receive exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine, a first ammonia injector configured to inject ammonia into the exhaust gas pathway at a first rate, and a first treatment element positioned downstream of the first ammonia injector. A second ammonia injector is positioned downstream of the first treatment element. The second ammonia injector is configured to inject ammonia into the exhaust gas pathway at a second rate. A controller is configured to estimate an amount of particulate present in the exhaust gas and adjust at least one of the first rate or the second rate based on the estimate.

System and method for regulating exhaust emissions

System and method of treating exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and adaptive control of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection. Adaptive control of DEF injection includes intentionally underdosing the injected DEF based on an amount of DEF determined by an electronic control unit as an amount needed to reduce nitrogen oxides (NO) to a compliance threshold. Since underdosing prevents ammonia (NH) slip from occurring due to low levels of DEF, a sensor accurately senses NOpresent in the exhaust gas at an output of an SCR chamber. An electronic control unit increases the amount of injected DEF based on the sensor.

An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas pathway configured to receive exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine, an ammonia source, and a first ammonia injector in fluid communication with the ammonia source. The first ammonia injector is configured to inject ammonia into the exhaust gas pathway at a first rate. The exhaust gas treatment system also includes a first treatment element positioned downstream of the first ammonia injector and a second ammonia injector in fluid communication with the ammonia source and positioned downstream of the first treatment element. The second ammonia injector is configured to inject ammonia into the exhaust gas pathway at a second rate different from the first rate. The exhaust gas treatment system further includes a second treatment element positioned downstream of the second ammonia injector.

System and method of treating exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine using selective catalytic injection and a modulated supply of diesel exhaust fluid. The modulated supply of diesel exhaust fluid induces variations in nitrogen oxides exiting a selective catalytic reduction chamber. An electronic control unit inputs a signal from a sensor that senses the variations in nitrogen oxides. The signal is filtered at the modulation frequency to isolate peak-to-peak variations in the signal caused by the modulated diesel exhaust fluid supply. Based on whether the peak-to-peak variations are above a threshold thus indicating a predominance of nitrogen oxides over reductant, the electronic control unit adjusts the supply of diesel exhaust fluid.

A particulate filter ash loading prediction method including the steps of determining a maximum average lifetime for the particulate filter; performing a calculation of a running average of time between regenerations of the particulate filter; calculating an end-of-service-life ratio of the particulate filter dependent upon the maximum average lifetime and the running average; and comparing the end-of-service-life ratio to a predetermined minimum end-of-service-life ratio. If the end-of-service-life ratio is equal to or less than the minimum end-of-service-life ratio then indicating that at least one of service and replacement of the particulate filter is needed due to ash loading.

Particulate filter ash loading prediction method and vehicle with same

A method for determining the service interval of a particulate filter including the steps of determining a normalized current pressure differential across the particulate filter and determining a normalized pressure differential across the particulate filter for clean conditions. The clean pressure normalized pressure differential is subtracted from the current differential and divided by the time between regeneration to determine a current factor. A maximum factor is predetermined and compared to the current factor to determine service life for the particulate filter.

A particulate filter ash loading prediction method including the steps of determining a service age for the particulate filter; calculating an ash accumulation rate in the particulate filter; determining a maximum service age for the particulate filter dependent upon the ash accumulation rate; and comparing the service age to the maximum service age. If the service age exceeds the maximum service age then indicating that a service and/or replacement of the particulate filter is needed due to ash loading.

Particulate filter ash loading prediction method and vehicle using same

A particulate filter (PF) ash loading prediction method includes the steps of: regenerating the PF using a first soot loading prediction model or a second soot loading prediction model; determining whether the regeneration of the PF was initiated by the first soot loading prediction model or the second soot loading prediction model; incrementing a first counter associated with the first soot loading prediction model or a second counter associated with the second soot loading prediction model, dependent on the determining step; comparing a ratio of the first counter and the second counter; and establishing whether the PF requires servicing, dependent on the ratio.

A particulate filter ash loading prediction method including the steps of determining a maximum average time for the filter; performing a calculation of a running average of time between regenerations of the filter; calculating an end-of-service life ratio of the filter dependent upon the maximum average time and the running average. The method further includes the steps of determining a delta pressure adjustment factor to compensate for ash loading of the filter depending upon the end-of-service life ratio; and comparing the delta pressure adjustment factor to a predetermined maximum delta pressure value, and, if the delta pressure adjustment factor exceeds the predetermined maximum normalized delta pressure adjustment factor, then indicating that a service or replacement of the filter is needed due to the ash loading.
