A method of neuromodulating a patient for treatment of physiological disorder. The method includes the steps of detecting a predetermined physiological state and applying stimulation to one of the cranial nerves during the predetermined physiological state by one or more stimulators of a neuromodulation system.

System and method for treating various neurological disorders using synchronized nerve activation

A device for providing a passage between a first and second heart chamber is provided. The device includes a middle region having first and second ends, a lumen extending therethrough having a longitudinal axis, a first end region coupled to the first end, and a second end region coupled to the second end. The first end region may be delivered in the first heart chamber in a compressed state and transitioned to a deployed state, the first end region being deformable such that portions of the first end region are expandable to different angles relative to the longitudinal axis. The second end region may be delivered in the second heart chamber in a compressed state and transitioned to a deployed state therein, the second end region being deformable such that portions of the second end region are expandable to different angles relative to the longitudinal axis.

Devices and methods for providing passage between heart chambers

Devices are provided with an internal dimension that can be reduced and increased in vivo. In one example, an interatrial shunt for placement at an atrial septum of a patient's heart includes a body. The body includes first and second regions coupled in fluid communication by a neck region. The body includes a shape-memory material. The body defines a passageway through the neck region for blood to flow between a first atrium and a second atrium. The first and second regions are superelastic at body temperature, and the neck region is malleable at body temperature. A flow area of the passageway through the neck region may be adjusted in vivo.

The invention provides a system for inhibition or treatment of an aberrant neurological event in a subject. The system comprises: one or more detectors; a controller; and one or more stimulators of the vagus nerve. The invention also provides a method for treating and preventing epileptic seizures and the onset or pre-onset of epileptic seizures. The method includes the steps of: collecting signals from each of one or more detector indicating the presence of a repetitive movement; analyzing signals received from the one or more detector to determine the intensity of the stimulation of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) required to control, moderate or prevent current and future repetitive movements; and when required, signaling one or more stimulator to stimulate the ABVN so that the repetitive motion ceases using the determined stimulation intensities.

Detection and monitoring using high frequency electrogram analysis

A method for analyzing a high frequency (HF) electrogram signal including (a) providing at least one electrogram signal from an electrode located within a subject's body, (b) measuring the electrogram signal at a high frequency during a specific segment of a cardiac cycle, generating a HF electrogram signal, and (c) having a computer measure at least one time-varying parameter of the HF electrogram signal. An electrode assembly includes electrodes and a cuff, shaped so as to define a tubular housing that defines a longitudinal axis therealong, two edges, and a slit between the two edges. When the housing is closed, respective contact surfaces of the two edges touch each other, and the housing defines an inner surface that faces and surrounds the axis, to which inner surface the electrodes are fixed. The cuff further defines three or more annular insulating elements that extend toward the axis from the inner surface of the housing at respective longitudinal positions along the housing, such that the inner surface of the housing and pairs of the insulating elements define, at respective longitudinal positions along the housing, respective chambers open toward the axis. The housing is shaped such that the contact surfaces of the two edges extend toward the axis and protrude into the chambers.
