Disclosed are an aqueous resin composition which comprises a material comprising an acrylic resin (A) having an acid value of 0 to 70 and an epoxy resin (B), which may be or may not be partially bound to each other, an acrylic resin (C) having an acid value of 100 to 500 which may be or may not be further partially bound to a bound product of (A) and (B) or to (B), and, if necessary, at least one of a resol type phenol resin and an amino resin (D) which may be or may not be previously condensed with at least one of (A), (B) (C) and a bound product thereof, and being dispersed in an aqueous solution containing a volatile base (E), and a method for forming a coating film on a can body using the above composition as an aqueous coating.

There is provided a photo-curable coating composition comprising (a) a photo-curable monomer of polymer and (b) a compound having a blocked isocyanate group and at least one ethylenically unsaturated group.

Photo-curable coating compositions

A method of forming a multicoat is provided comprising the steps of applying a photocurable colored base coat on a substrate, photocuring the same, applying a clear top coat on the base coat, and then baking the entire multicoat at an elevated temperature. The method is characterized by the use of a polymerizable photocuring accelerator having an aminobenzoyl group and a polymerizable unsaturated group for accelerating the photocuring the base coat.

A photo-curable coating composition having a high hiding power which comprises (1) a photo-curable, urethane-modified polymer having at least one unsaturation originated in the acrylate or methacrylate moiety and a molecular weight of which the proportion to the number of said unsaturation is 200-10,000, (2) an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated compound copolymerizable with said acrylate or methacrylate moiety, (3) a photo-sensitizer, and (4) a coloring agent.

A method of curing a photo-curable coating composition comprises multi-stage irradiation steps with actinic radiations in the presence of air: the initial step involving irradiation with actinic radiation having wavelengths in a range from about 185 to 500 millimicrons with dominant wavelength or wavelengths between about 380 and 420 millimicrons and the subsequent step involving irradiation with another actinic radiation of wavelengths within the same range as those of the radiation used for the initial step but having dominant wavelength or wavelengths within a range shorter than those of the radiation used therefor and the initial irradiation being effected so as to cure the lower part of the coating layer with the surface portion thereof left uncured and the subsequent irradiation leading to the full cure of the surface portion thereof. The coating film or layer thus treated possesses a high covering or hiding power, good appearance and desired shade with a smooth and glossy surface, having neither crinkles nor wrinkles thereon.
