An apparatus and method for solution coating layers onto a substrate of an electronic device. A slot die coater in conjunction with a vacuum assist device is used in priming, coating and cleaning stations to produce thin layers having performance advantages over competing technologies.

The present invention relates to electrically conductive polymer compositions, and their use in electronic devices. The compositions contain a semi-aqueous dispersion of at least one electrically conductive polymer doped with at least one highly-fluorinated acid polymer, non-conductive oxide nanoparticles, at least one high-boiling organic liquid, and at least one lower-boiling organic liquid.

Large-Area lighting systems and methods of making the same. More specifically, groups of organic light emitting modules, such as organic light emitting diode modules, coupled in series with respect to on another are provided. The modules cathode of each organic light emitting module is electrically coupled to the anode of an adjacent light emitting module in an interconnect region. A portion of the cathode of each module extends adjacent to an active area of an adjacent module at an interconnect region. Methods of fabricating series groups of organic light emitting modules employing continuous material layers is also provided.

In one embodiment the present invention discloses a method for making a first layer in an electroactive device comprising the steps of (i) preparing a composition by mixing at least one adhesion promoter material and at least one electroactive material; and (ii) depositing said composition onto a second electroactive layer of said electroactive device; and (iii) optionally further depositing a third electroactive layer onto the surface of said first layer opposite the second layer, wherein said composition enables adhesion between said first layer and said second layer or between said first layer and said third layer, or between said first layer and both said second layer and said third layer. In another embodiment the present invention discloses a method for improving adhesion between layers in an electroactive device comprising the steps of (i) depositing a surface treatment composition comprising at least one adhesion promoter material on at least one surface of a first electroactive layer, and (ii) depositing a second electroactive layer onto the surface of said first layer comprising said adhesion promoter; wherein said composition enables adhesion between said first layer and said second layer of said electroactive device. Electroactive layers and electroactive devices comprising said layers are also disclosed, as well as methods to make said electroactive devices. In another embodiment adhesion promoters comprising 9,9-disubstituted fluorenyl compounds are disclosed, as well as methods for making the same.

An illumination source including a first OLED layer capable of emitting light of a first color, a second OLED layer capable of emitting light of a second color and disposed on the first OLED layer, each of said first, second OLED layers including alternating active light-emitting areas and inactive non-light emitting areas; said first OLED layer comprising a first substrate, a first transparent electrode layer disposed on the substrate, a first electroluminescent layer capable of emitting light of the first color disposed on the first transparent electrode layer, and a first patterned metallized electrode layer forming the alternating active light-emitting areas and inactive non-light emitting areas; and said second OLED layer comprising a second substrate, a second transparent electrode layer disposed on the substrate, a second electroluminescent layer capable of emitting light of the second color disposed on the second transparent electrode layer, and a second patterned metallized electrode layer forming the alternating active light-emitting areas and inactive non-light emitting areas; wherein light emitted by the active light-emitting areas of the first OLED layer is transmitted through the inactive non-light emitting areas of the second OLED layer. A method for tuning color and/or intensity of the light output of an illumination source is also disclosed.

A device includes a plurality of organic electronic devices disposed on a substrate, wherein each of the organic electronic devices comprises a first electrode and a second electrode. Furthermore, the device includes an organic layer disposed between the first and second electrodes of each of the plurality of organic electronic devices. Additionally, the device includes an interconnect element, wherein the interconnect element is configured to electrically couple the respective first and second electrodes of each of the plurality of organic electronic devices.
