Aspects of this disclosure relate to wireless communications that involve a quasi-omni beam and a directional beam, where the wireless communications involve radio frequency signals having relatively high frequency (e.g., a frequency above 20 GHz). In embodiments, a quasi-omni beam is wirelessly transmitted, a directional beam is selected based on the quasi-omni beam, and a data transmission is received over the selected directional beam.

New radio (NR) transmission opportunity (TxOP) structure having flexible starting points are disclosed for wireless communications. When a typical listen before talk (LBT) procedure is performed, the transmitting node will not know ahead of time when the LBT will pass and, thus, when data transmissions can start. NR systems may include a mini-slot design for accommodating transmission units smaller than a slot. Aspects of the present disclosure provide for flexibly increasing the number of potential starting transmission boundaries depending on when the LBT pass is detected. Alternative aspects of the present disclosure determine the potential starting transmission points using a mini-slot based design, a floating slot based design, or a punctured slot based design with a code block group (CBG) level retransmission mechanism.

NR-unlicensed transmission opportunity structure with flexible starting point

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) and a base station may communicate in an unlicensed spectrum (e.g., a shared radio frequency spectrum band). As such, the UE may determine a codebook size for transmitting hybrid access request (HARQ) acknowledgement (ACK) feedback with respect to the unlicensed spectrum. Accordingly, the UE may base the HARQ ACK codebook size on a number of HARQ processes with which the UE has been configured. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may base the HARQ ACK codebook size on a number and/or duration of downlink channel monitoring occasions indicated by the base station. In some cases, the UE may base the HARQ ACK codebook size on a combination of the techniques described herein.

Acknowledgement feedback in unlicensed new radio

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that asynchronous carrier aggregation, including between high frequency band and lower frequency band transmissions. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to monitor transmissions in a first frequency band and a second frequency band. The UE may measure a timing difference between transmissions in the first frequency band and one or more of the transmissions in the second frequency band, and transmit an indication of the timing difference to a base station. The base station may use the timing difference to determine whether the UE is to use asynchronous carrier aggregation. If the base station determines that the UE is to use asynchronous carrier aggregation, the base station may configure the UE to observe at least a minimum amount of delay when conducting uplink signaling via one of the frequency bands.

Asynchronous carrier aggregation

Various aspects of the disclosure relate to beam information for independent links. For example, beam information for one link may be sent on at least one other link. In some aspects, the independent links may involve a first device (e.g., a user equipment) communicating via different independent links with different devices (e.g., transmit receive points (TRPs) or sets of TRPs). For example, the first device may communicate with a second device (e.g., a TRP) via a first link and communicate with a third device (e.g., a TRP) via a second link. In some scenarios, one link can indicate beam switching for at least one other link. In some scenarios, one link can indicate link recovery for at least one other link. In some scenarios, one link can indicate link failure for at least one other link.

Beam information for independent links

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a transmission detection procedure on each base station before combining control information. The UE may use demodulation reference signals (DMRS) as a detection mechanism. If the UE detects a DMRS from a base station, the UE may determine that a control resource set associated with the base station is valid for combining. If the UE does not detect DMRS from the base station, the UE may refrain from combining control information from the base station. In another example, base stations that pass a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure may transmit a preamble before transmitting control information. A preamble may carry a preamble sequence associated with a specific control resource set. The UE may identify a preamble sequence and determine that the corresponding control resource set is valid for control information combining.

Enhanced downlink control information detection

Aspects of this disclosure relate to assigning scrambling identifiers to user equipments. A first scrambling identifier can be assigned to each user equipment of a group, such that the first scrambling identifier is the same for each of the user equipments of the group. A second scrambling identifier can be assigned to each of the user equipments of the group, such that the second scrambling identifier is different for each of the user equipments of the group. A selected scrambling identifier can be used to generate a reference signal sequence.

Scrambling identifiers for wireless communication systems

Techniques for autonomous uplink (AUL) transmissions are provided that allow for efficient use of shared radio frequency spectrum band resources. A user equipment (UE) may determine a duration of an AUL transmission and modify an uplink waveform or provide an indication to a base station of one or more channel resources that may be available for base station transmissions, in order to more fully utilize shared radio frequency spectrum band resources within a maximum channel occupancy time (MCOT). A base station may activate or deactivate AUL transmissions through downlink control information (DCI) transmitted to the UE. A UE and base station may exchange various other control information to provide relatively efficient autonomous uplink transmissions and use of the shared radio frequency spectrum band resources.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In a wireless communications system, multiple transmission/reception points (TRPs) may perform a joint transmission to a user equipment (UE) such that the UE may rely on demodulation reference signals (DMRSs) from the TRPs for channel estimation and data demodulation to receive the joint transmission. When TRP transmissions are punctured, which may introduce reception errors at a receiving UE, one or more TRPs may transmit unique DMRSs such that each TRP transmits a DMRS that is unique to the transmitting TRP, transmit DMRSs that are unique to punctured resource elements (REs), or determine to refrain from transmitting on punctured REs. In some cases, TRPs may transmit preemption indications (PIs) to a UE, where the PIs may indicate punctured (e.g., or not utilized) REs to allow the UE to utilize a unique DMRS for channel estimation or to ignore the punctured REs.

Aspects of this disclosure relate to user equipment rate selection. Sum rates can be compared including and excluding a candidate layer. Based on the comparison, the candidate layer can be included in a layer set. Rate selection for user equipments of a cluster can be performed based on the layer set. In certain applications, user equipment rate selection can be performed for multiple clusters of user equipments and network nodes. In such applications, inter-cluster interference can be nulled.

Techniques providing opportunistic frequency switching for frame based equipment (FBE), such as may be configured to minimize opportunistic frequency switching delay in FBE new radio (NR) unlicensed (NR-U) networks and/or to provide frequency diversity FBE access based on offset sequences of medium sensing occasions for the carrier frequencies are disclosed. Within the FBE mode network, a base station may configure a pattern of sensing locations in each frame for each frequency transmission unit of the plurality of frequency transmission units, wherein an inter-unit delay of sensing locations between a first frequency transmission unit and a next adjacent frequency transmission unit and between a last frequency transmission unit and the first frequency transmission unit is a fixed duration. Opportunistic frequency switching of embodiments may utilize the medium sensing locations for opportunistically switching between a sequence of the frequency transmission units for implementing frequency diversity FBE access.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to a multipoint environment that enables a station (STA) to communicate with multiple access points (APs) and an AP to communicate with multiple STAs in a single wireless protocol stack. For example, a STA can authenticate simultaneously with multiple APs and decode any data packet that includes in a header a destination address that matches an address of the STA, irrespective of the source address included in the header of the data packet. Similarly, an AP can decode any data packet that includes in a header a destination address that matches an address of the AP or that matches a wildcard address associated with the AP, irrespective of the source address included in the header of the data packet.

System and method for reducing data packet processing false alarms

Aspects of the disclosure relate to an interference-aware beamforming environment in which an AP controller can determine one or more beams of one or more APs to serve various STAs. For example, an AP can request that STA(s) provide one or more uplink pilot signals during different time slots. The AP can receive the uplink pilot signal(s) and determine, for each STA, the uplink beam quality of each transmit beam-receive beam pair over which an uplink pilot signal was received from the respective STA. The AP can use reciprocity to determine, for each STA, the downlink beam quality for various transmit beam-receive beam pairs. The AP can use the determined downlink beam quality to identify the best beam with which to serve various STAs. An AP controller can determine which downlink beam(s) an AP should use to serve a STA based on the downlink beams originally selected by the APs.

Interference-aware beamforming

User equipment associated with a legacy network may utilize a bottom-to-top search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. Generating a control channel that is configured for the bottom-to-top search technique may lead to poor performance in a single-carrier waveform, which may be disadvantageous as networks move toward New Radio. In some aspects, described herein, a base station generates a control channel that is configured to minimize gaps in the control channel, and a user equipment performs a top-to-bottom search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. By using the top-to-bottom search technique, degradation of single-carrier waveforms is reduced and efficiency is improved.
