An exemplary exhaust test tog apparatus includes a housing defining an exhaust flow path extending from an inlet to an outlet. At least a portion of the housing is selectably rotatable relative to an exhaust aftertreatment system. An arm extends from the housing into the exhaust flow path. An exhaust probe configured to measure an exhaust constituent is coupled with the arm and positioned at a location in the exhaust flow path. An actuator is configured to extend and retract the arm to vary the location of the exhaust probe in the exhaust flow path. The exhaust probe is moveable to a plurality of locations within the exhaust flow path through a combination of rotation of the housing and extension and retraction of the arm.

Uniformity index performance evaluation in an SCR aftertreatment system

An exhaust gas catalyst system that includes at least one exhaust canister including an inlet separated from an outlet with catalytic components positioned between the inlet and outlet. The at least one exhaust canister receives a flow of exhaust gas. The at least one exhaust canister includes a pair of concentric passages formed therein including a central passage and an outer passage. A split flap valve is positioned in the inlet. An actuator is coupled to the split flap valve. A control unit is operably connected to the actuator and selectively moves the split flap valve closing one of the concentric passages and locally heating a portion of the catalytic components.

An exemplary exhaust testing apparatus includes a housing defining an exhaust flow path extending from an inlet to an outlet. At least a portion of the housing is selectably rotatable relative to an exhaust aftertreatment system. An arm extends from the housing into the exhaust flow path. An exhaust probe configured to measure an exhaust constituent is coupled with the arm and positioned at a location in the exhaust flow path. Uniformity index performance evaluation in an SCR aftertreatement system

An exhaust after-treatment system is coupled to an exhaust pipe of a diesel internal combustion engine (ICE) for treating an exhaust gas. The exhaust after-treatment system includes a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a SCR coated diesel particulate filter (SDPF) serially disposed in a downstream path of the exhaust gas. An electrically heated catalyst (EHC) is coupled to the DOC and is configured to electrically heat the DOC for reducing the requisite time to reach a DOC light-off temperature. A controller is operably coupled with the DOC and the EHC and is configured to operate the EHC in response to a mid bed temperature of the DOC. More specifically, the controller is configured to supply power to the EHC when the DOC mid bed temperature is below a predetermined value and discontinue the power supply to the EHC when the DOC mid bed temperature is greater than the predetermined value.

Exhaust after-treatment system for diesel internal combustion engines

Methods and apparatuses for monitoring an oxidation catalyst in a vehicle exhaust system include a diesel internal combustion engine with an exhaust system that has an EGR, a DOC/DPF downstream from the EGR, an SCR catalyst downstream of the DOC/DPF, a first NOx sensor located upstream of the DOC/DPF, and a second NOx sensor located downstream of the SCR catalyst. A monitoring cycle of the exhaust system during operation of the diesel ICE includes executing a DPF regeneration event, shutting off the EGR, terminating urea dosing to the SCR catalyst, emptying NHstorage in the SCR catalyst, and intrusively maintaining the temperature of the DOC/DPF within a predetermined temperature range. Readings from the first NOx sensor and the second NOx sensor allow for a ratio between first NOx sensor readings and second NOx sensor readings, the ratio providing an indication as to whether or not the DOC/DPF is failing or operating properly.

Apparatuses and methods for onboard diagnostic monitoring and detection

An exhaust diagnostic system. The system includes a diesel engine having an exhaust system with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, a first NOx sensor located upstream of the SCR catalyst and a second NOx sensor located downstream of the SCR catalyst. In addition, an engine control unit (ECU) is in electronic communication with the first NOx sensor and the second NOx sensor. An SCR coordinator can be included and be configured to execute a non-intrusive SCR deNOx efficiency test, an intrusive SCR/DOC deNOx efficiency test and an intrusive DOC non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) conversion efficiency test on the exhaust system. As a result of the conversion efficiency tests, a distinction can be made as to whether the SCR catalyst or DOC is failing.

Method for diagnosing SCR catalyst and feed gas quality in a diesel after-treatment system

Described herein is a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst treatment system that includes a vanadium-based SCR catalyst contaminated with a water-soluble contaminant. The SCR catalyst treatment system also includes a water delivery system that is configured to apply water to the vanadium-based SCR catalyst to remove the water-soluble contaminant from the vanadium-based SCR catalyst.

Diagnosis and treatment of selective catalytic reduction catalyst

An internal combustion engine system includes a spark-ignited internal combustion engine powered by a gaseous fuel. The engine system also includes an air intake in air providing communication with the internal combustion engine. Further, the engine system includes an exhaust system in exhaust gas receiving communication with the internal combustion engine. The exhaust system includes a methane oxidation catalyst through which at least a portion of the exhaust gas flows and an exhaust gas recirculation line in exhaust gas providing communication with the air intake.

Exhaust system for spark-ignited gaseous fuel internal combustion engine

Systems, methods and apparatus are disclosed for targeted regeneration of a catalyst device in an exhaust aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine. The targeted regeneration can include interpreting, initiating, and/or completing a regeneration event for an SCR catalyst or other type of catalyst in response to a catalyst deactivation condition. A catalyst regeneration event includes at least one of exposing the catalyst to a sufficiently high temperature over a time period that removes contaminants from the catalyst and manipulation of the exhaust gas composition to initiate and/or accelerate removal of contaminants from the catalyst.
