An energy storage device for storing electrical energy. A housing frame of the energy storage device has respective housing end walls on two opposite end faces of the housing frame. The energy storage device has at least one battery cell stack. Respective stack end plates are arranged on two opposite end faces of the battery cell stack, which end plates are fastened in the housing frame of the energy storage device and by which end plates the battery cell stack is subjected to a compressive pressure. The stack end plates are aligned parallel to the housing end walls. At least one of the stack end plates is separated from a housing end wall located opposite to it by a space free of a battery cell stack.

A battery module includes a plurality of individual electrical cells which are arranged within a common housing, wherein an end side of the housing has mechanical connecting elements for connecting the battery module to a temperature-control element which is provided outside the battery module in order to thereby enable good heat transfer between the battery module and the temperature-control element. The mechanical connecting elements are provided as corresponding upper and lower cutouts in the end side of the housing, which upper and lower cutouts are connected to one another by a through-passage, for receiving a connector of which the head can be positioned in the one cutout. The connector can extend vertically along the through-passage and can be connected to a mating piece which can be positioned at least partially in the other cutout and is fixedly connected to the temperature-control element.

Battery module and battery

A method for operating a battery of an at least partially electrically operated/driven functional device, a corresponding battery, and a corresponding functional device. A control unit of the battery receives measurement signals relating to a respective parameter of the battery cells from a plurality of switchable battery cells of the battery. The control unit prepares a location-resolved distribution function of the respective cell parameter within the battery on the basis of the measurement signals. By activating the switching elements of the switchable battery cells according to a predetermined switching rule, the control unit produces a pattern of battery cells switched to active and passive. A predetermined location-resolved distribution function of the respective cell parameter is fulfilled and at least one predetermined secondary condition relating to an operation of the functional device and/or the battery is maintained.
