Software extensions for applications of an enterprise system may be developed in a test system. An adaptation transport module accesses, in the test system, a collection of adaptation objects where each adaptation object includes a semantic representation of a software extension for an application of an enterprise system and at least one associated software object. The transport module processes the collection by: generating staging data based on a type of each adaptation object; exporting the collection from the test system; performing checks on each adaptation object based on the staging data; and importing the collection to the enterprise system. The transport module installs each of the software extensions on the application, using the at least one associated software object for each, based on the results of the checks of each respective adaptation object. The staging data may be written to a file in a common directory shared by both systems.

Checks for software extensions

Adaptation objects comprising software extensions for applications of an enterprise system may be developed in a test system. Dependency data for an adaptation object may be generated based on a reference, in the adaptation object, to at least one other adaptation object in the test system. If the adaptation object is assigned to a collection of adaptation objects for export to the enterprise system then checks are performed on the adaptation object based on the dependency data. One check may be for determining whether the at least one other adaptation object is: part of the collection or has already been exported and is unchanged since last being exported. If this check is failed a user interface is provided for: adding a latest version of the at least one adaptation object to the collection; or removing the reference to the at least one other adaptation object from the adaptation object.

Dependency handling for software extensions

Software extensions for applications of an enterprise system may be developed in a test system. An adaptation transport module displays, in a test system, a plurality of semantic representations of software extension components for an application of an enterprise system. A semantic representation of a software extension for the application is generated based on a user selection of a combination of the semantic representations of software extension components. An adaptation object comprising the semantic representation of the software extension and at least one associated software object is generated by identifying the associated software object(s) based on an adaptation type of the adaptation object. The adaptation transport module displays, in the enterprise system, the semantic representation of the software extension (or of a collection including the software extension) and the adaptation object is imported to the enterprise system based on a user selection of the semantic representation of the software extension.

In contrast to conventional approaches in which an update to a business software architecture generally involves performing update procedures during a period of business downtime followed by an import of customer-specific transport requests also during business downtime, the current subject matter can facilitate import of the customer transport requests in parallel with update to a core software platform of the business software architecture.

Inclusion of customer-specific transport requests in software architecture update procedures

When customer transport requests are included in an update procedure performed on a customer-customizable business software architecture, versioning of the objects and other features imported via such transport requests can require an extended period of business downtime using conventional methods. Additional downtime can result if the objects of the customer transports are not automatically generated. Consistent with features described herein, versioning can be done for many object types in a second shadow system or instance during uptime. The generation of objects in the customer transports can also done in the second shadow system or instance during uptime.

Downtime reduction for integration of customer transport requests into a software architecture update procedure

A computer-implemented method for modifying software code includes: processing a command to modify a first module of software code stored on a production system in a distributed computing environment, where the software code includes a first plurality of data objects and a first plurality of notes; generating at least one queue comprising the second plurality of notes; modifying a second module of software code stored on a development system in the distributed computing environment with the second plurality of notes, where the second module of software code comprising a version of the first module of software code; and transferring the second module of software code to the production system to modify the first module of software code such that the first plurality of notes are modified by the second plurality of notes.
