The present invention relates to an adhesive compositions, facestocks and/or packaging labels containing same, where such compositions, facestocks and/or labels are designed to facilitate the recyclability of a plastic article formed from any suitable polymer or mixture of polymers (e.g., a polyethylene terephthalate (PET), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), low density polyethylene (LDPE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), or others of all plastic types), or even glass bottles. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method for removing an adhesive composition, facestock and/or packaging label containing same, from a plastic article that is to be recycled.

A multilayer laminate such as a label assembly having high opacity and desirable appearance characteristics is described. The laminate includes a facestock layer, an adhesive layer, and a liner layer. The facestock layer includes a print-receiving top coat layer that includes a combination of titanium dioxide and one or more optical brighteners. The combination of these materials avoids build up of static charges upon laser printing on the facestock.

A self-wound decorative dry paint transfer laminate includes a layer of dry paint, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on one side of the dry paint layer, and a release liner in releasable contact with the dry paint layer on a side opposite from the pressure-sensitive adhesive. The release liner has a matte release coat layer that contacts the dry paint layer. The matte release coat releasably adheres to the dry paint layer to provide a protective function but also to transfer a decorative matte finish to the dry paint layer when the release liner is removed from the dry paint layer. The opposite side of the release liner has an adhesive release coat that contacts the pressure-sensitive adhesive when the laminate is in a self-wound form.

This disclosed invention relates to a laminate for use as a wallcovering comprising: a matte release liner having a flexible polymeric matte release backing liner and a matte release coat bonded to the matte release backing liner, and a flexible multi-layer decorative film releasably adhered to the matte release liner, the decorative film comprising a dry paint film layer in contact with the matte release coat, and an adhesive layer bonded to the dry paint film layer on a side thereof opposite the matte release liner, the dry paint film layer comprising a layer of pigment dispersed in a polymeric binder, the matte release coat having a level of tack that preferentially adheres the matte release backing liner to the decorative film sufficient to provide a level of structural support for the decorative film when placing the adhesive side of the paint film layer in contact with a substrate, the matte release coat having a micro-roughened surface for transferring a matte finish to the exposed surface fo the dry paint film layer when the release coat is released from contact with the dry paint film layer, the adhesive layer having a suppressed initial level of tack at room temperature that allows the laminate to adhere to a substrate and be repositioned thereon followed by removal of the matte release liner from the dry paint film layer, the adhesive layer undergoing subsequent build up of adhesion due to the passage of time sufficient to permanently bond the dry paint film layer to the substrate.

This invention relates to a composite pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprising at least one first pressure sensitive adhesive material in the form of at least one continuous phase, and at least one second pressure sensitive adhesive material in the form of at least one discontinuous phase, said discontinuous phase being dispersed in said continuous phase. The invention also relates to a laminate having a composite pressure sensitive adhesive composition overlying the surface of a substrate, and to a process for making the foregoing laminate. The laminates can be used in making labels, tapes, and the like.

This invention relates to a process for applying a coating material comprising a release coating composition or a pressure sensitive adhesive composition to a substrate, the process comprising: (A) atomizing and electrically charging said coating material; and (B) spraying the atomized and charged coating material from step (A) on to a substrate which overlies a grounded support structure. In one embodiment, the coating material sprayed during step (B) is a release coating composition, said process further comprising the additional steps of: (C) curing said release coating composition; (D) atomizing and electrically charging a pressure sensitive adhesive composition; (E) spraying the pressure sensitive adhesive composition from step (D) on to said substrate over the cured release coating composition from step (C); and (F) placing another substrate over the sprayed pressure sensitive adhesive composition from step (E).
