Data is remotely collected from a plurality of fasteners in response to a query signal wirelessly transmitted by a reader. Each of the fasteners includes a sensor for measuring a parameter related to the stress on the fastener. A device adapted to be attached to each of the fasteners receives the query signal, activates the sensor to measure the parameter and wirelessly transmits the data including the parameter to the reader.

Methods and systems for measuring atmospheric water content, are provided. The method includes measuring a first air temperature and a first air pressure at a first location in a compressor, measuring a second air temperature and a second air pressure at a second location in the compressor, computing a ratio of specific heats from the first and second air temperatures and the first and second air pressures, and determining an atmospheric water content from the ratio of specific heats.

An apparatus and method are disclosed for dual Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA) port small satellite designs. The apparatus and method provide payload volume for larger satellites. In one or more embodiments, the apparatus and method include a plurality of small satellite components, a payload adaptor ring, and at least one pivoting hinge system. In at least one embodiment, the plurality of small satellite components includes at least one payload, one bus, and/or one solar panel. The small satellite components are mounted on the payload adaptor ring. At least one pivoting hinge system connects together at least two of the small satellite components. Upon deployment of the small satellite components from the payload adaptor ring, at least one pivoting hinge system combines together at least two small satellite components, thereby creating at least one single larger satellite.

A sulky includes a frame having a cross-member and a pair of shafts spaced from each other and extending from the cross-member forwardly along an axis. A first wheel support and a second wheel support each rotatably extend downwardly from the frame and each engage wheels, respectively. Each of the first and second wheel supports includes an adjustment feature defining a plurality of adjustment positions. The wheels are engaged with the first and second wheel supports, respectively, and are independently adjustable relative to the first and second wheel supports, respectively, to any of the adjustment positions. The plurality of adjustment positions of the first and second wheel supports are located along lines generally extending rearwardly along the axis and upwardly relative to the axis.

An inexpensive unmanned mobile sensor and data collection rolling rover ('rollver) for exploring remote, inaccessible locations, such as deep craters and canyons, includes a hollow enclosure having a flexible wall that is expandable into the shape of a sphere, an apparatus for selectably expanding the wall of the enclosure, a sensor and instrumentation payload disposed within the enclosure and coupled to an inner surface of the wall of the enclosure, and a power supply for powering the payload at its destination. The rollver is adapted to roll to a target destination at least partially in response to at least one of an initial impetus imparted to the vehicle and gravitational forces acting thereon, and due to its relatively low cost, can be simultaneously deployed and used in an area of interest in relatively large numbers.

Spherical sensor and data collection vehicles

A system and method for obtaining weather related information for a portion of the Earth's atmosphere between a predetermined surface portion of the Earth and an airborne object located over the predetermined surface portion, and operating at a known altitude, using position locating signals from a space vehicle. In one exemplary implementation the space vehicle transmits a first position locating signal. The first position locating signal is received by the airborne object directly from the space vehicle. A second position locating signal from the space vehicle is received by the airborne object after being reflected from the predetermined surface portion at a known angle. Phase information from the first and second position locating signals is used to determine a refractivity of the atmosphere between the predetermined surface portion and the airborne object. The refractivity is used to determine weather related information for the atmosphere.

Method and system for determining water vapor profile using GPS signals

A sulky includes a frame and a first and second wheel supports. The first wheel support extends along a first axis and is rotatably coupled to the frame about the first axis. The second wheel support extends along a second axis and is rotatably coupled to the frame about the second axis. First and second pedals are operatively coupled to the frame and to the first and second wheel supports, respectively. The first and second pedals are moveable relative to the frame for rotating the first wheel support about the first axis and for rotating the second wheel support about the second axis. A linkage operatively couples the first and second wheel supports for transferring movement of one of the first and second pedals to both of the first and second wheel supports to rotate the first and second wheel supports in unison respectively about the first and second axes.
