A variable flow rate gas control valve for use in consumer and commercial appliances is presented. The valve utilizes two or more solenoids to control the operating position of two different valve members whose orifices are sized in an exponential relationship with one another. By opening one or more of the valving members in various combinations, a variable flow rate of gaseous fuel may be controlled in integer multiple steps from full off to full on. The solenoid configurations may be in line, opposing, or symmetrical about an axis of the valve. The number of unique flow rates (F) is related to the number of solenoids (N) as F=2. The relationship between the size (S) of the individual gas control orifices for each of the solenoids is related to N by the relationship S=2for each individual gas control orifice (n) numbered 1 to N.

A brake-transmission shift interlock device for an automatic transmission system includes a solenoid secured to a support member that positions the solenoid so as to block movement of a transmission member to prevent a transmission shifter from being moved from a park position. The solenoid includes a plunger having first and second portions and . The second plunger portion engages the transmission member laterally on a side wall if the brake pedal is not depressed and the shifter is in the park position. To prevent the plunger from binding, the second plunger portion is allowed to axially offset from the first plunger portion thereby reducing the required lineal force to move the plunger from a first to a second position when the solenoid is energized.

A gas control valve with an integrated solenoid valve and gas pressure regulator for gas appliances is provided with a cast body having a casting configured to receive a solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is received in the casting so as to be internally mounted within the control valve. A gas flow path is formed from the gas inlet of the gas control valve through the manual shutoff valve and the solenoid valve assembly to the gas outlet. The solenoid valve assembly controls flow of gas through this gas outlet.

A brake-transmission shift interlock device 10 for an automatic transmission system includes a solenoid 14 secured to a support member 12 that positions the solenoid 14 so as to block movement of a transmission member 176 to prevent a transmission shifter from being moved from a park position. The solenoid 14 includes a plunger 50 having first and second portions 76 and 78. The second plunger portion 78 engages the transmission member 176 laterally on a side wall 94 if the brake pedal is not depressed and the shifter is in the park position. To prevent the plunger 50 from binding, the second plunger portion 78 is allowed to axially offset from the first plunger portion 76 thereby reducing the required lineal force to move the plunger 50 from a first to a second position when the solenoid 14 is energized.

Brake-transmission shift interlock device for an automatic transmission

This sectionalizer comprises a movable current-carrying member carrying a first contact that is engageable with a second contact when the sectionalizer is closed. Overcenter toggle means holds the current-carrying member in its closed position when the toggle means is in an overcenter condition but is ineffective to hold the current-carrying member in said closed position when the toggle means is driven out of its overcenter condition. Electronic control means develops a pulse of electrical energy when predetermined conditions have occurred in the circuit through the sectionalizer. A resettable actuator for said overcenter toggle means comprises operating spring means, permanent magnet means for holding the operating spring means in a charged condition, and electromagnetic means effective when energized by said pulse of electric energy for reducing the holding force provided by the permanent magnet means sufficiently to allow the operating spring means to discharge and drive the overcenter toggle means out of its overcenter condition, thus allowing the current-carrying member to move toward open condition.
