A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, holding a definition of multiple re-establishment modes, each re-establishment mode defining a respective criterion for selecting a base station with which to re-establish a failed data session. Success statistics of one or more of the re-establishment modes in a given geographical region are collected in the terminal. In response to a failure in a data session occurring while the terminal is in the given geographical region, a re-establishment mode is selected from among the multiple re-establishment modes based on the success statistics, and the data session is re-established using the selected re-establishment mode.

Adaptive re-establishment of data sessions

A method in a mobile communication terminal, which operates alternately in an idle mode and a connected mode, includes maintaining a count of mobility events in which the terminal switches to camp on a cell. The count is retained irrespective of transitions of the terminal into and out of the idle mode and the connected mode. A mobility state is selected for the terminal depending on the count, and operation of the terminal is configured based on the selected mobility state.

Enhanced mobility state detection in mobile communication terminals

A method used in a receiver includes measuring first Received Signal Strength Indications (RSSIs) in respective first communication channels, which are located in a given frequency band and which each have a first channel bandwidth. Based on the first RSSIs, second RSSIs are computed for respective second communication channels, which are located in the given frequency band and which each have a second channel bandwidth that is larger than the first channel bandwidth. At least one of the first and second communication channels over which to receive signals at the receiver are selected using the first and second RSSIs.
