There is provided a film-forming composition, including: a first water-soluble cellulose ether (WSCE) having a viscosity at 20&#xb0; C. of 2.5 to 45 mPa&#xb7;s, a second WSCE having a viscosity at 20&#xb0; C. of 6.0 to 50.0 mPa&#xb7;s, a third WSCE having a viscosity at 20&#xb0; C. of 4.5 to 15.0 mPa&#xb7;s, each viscosity being determined in a 2% by mass aqueous solution, and a solvent, wherein the first WSCE is selected from four members of hydroxypropyl methyl celluloses Ia and Ib in Group I and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose IIa and methyl cellulose IIb in Group II, the second WSCE is the same member as that of the first WSCE, provided that the substitution degree(s) of the second WSCE may be the same as or different from that of the first WSCE, and the third WSCE is selected from members in a Group different from the Group of the first WSCE.

A composition which is used for the production of a solid preparation exhibiting a small variation of dissolution even at a low content of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), and others. More specifically, provided are a composition for a solid preparation, the composition including HPMC having a polydispersity of 4.0 or more, as determined by absolute molecular weight measurement, and having a viscosity at 20&#xb0; C. of 1,500 to 15,0000 mPa&#xb7;s, as determined in a 2% by mass aqueous solution thereof, and an active ingredient; the solid preparation including the composition; and a method for producing a tablet including a step of dry-mixing said HPMC with an active ingredient to obtain a mixture, or granulating a mixture including said HPMC and an active ingredient to obtain a granulated product, and a step of tableting the mixture or the granulated product to obtain a tablet.

Provided are a solid preparation comprising an alkyl cellulose which provides excellent moldability and disintegrability even in a small amount of the alkyl cellulose, and a production method therefor. There is provided is a hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose exhibiting good flowability and high compressibility. More specifically, provided are a hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose having a volume-based average particle diameter, determined by dry laser diffractometry, of 50 to 100 &#x3bc;m, and having, on a basis of a dynamic image analysis to divide all particles into fine particles, spherical particles and fibrous particles, a volume fraction of the fibrous particles consisting of long and short fibrous particles relative to all of the particles of 45 to 70%, and a volume fraction of the fine particles relative to all of the particles of less than 2.0%; a solid preparation including the hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose; and others.

Provided are an alkyl cellulose excellent in formability when added even in a small amount and not causing marked delay in disintegration; a solid preparation comprising it; and a method for producing the solid preparation. More specifically, provided are an alkyl cellulose for use in tableting, the alkyl cellulose having a specific surface area of from 0.5 to 10.0 m/g as measured by BET method and a solid preparation comprising the alkyl cellulose. Also provided is a method for producing the alkyl cellulose, comprising the steps of: bringing pulp into contact with an alkali metal hydroxide solution to obtain alkali cellulose, reacting the alkali cellulose with an etherifying agent to obtain a first alkyl cellulose, pulverizing the first alkyl cellulose, and depolymerizing the pulverized first alkyl cellulose through hydrolysis with an acid catalyst or through oxidative decomposition with an oxidant to obtain a second alkyl cellulose.

Alkyl cellulose for use in tableting and solid preparation comprising same

Provided is a hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose exhibiting good flowability and high compressibility. More specifically, there are provided a hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose having a volume-based average particle size, determined by dry laser diffractometry, of more than 100 &#x3bc;m and not more than 150 &#x3bc;m; and after dividing all particles into fine particles, spherical particles and fibrous particles by a dynamic image analysis, a volume fraction of the fibrous particles relative to all of the particles of more than 40% and not more than 50%, and a volume fraction of the fine particles relative to all of the particles of less than 2.0%; a solid preparation including the hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose; and others.

Provided is a composition for forming a film, the composition not having completely dissolved hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), and enabling formation of the film having a uniform thickness by suppressing the viscosity increase of the composition around an immersion temperature of 50&#xb0; C. More specifically provided is a composition for forming a film, the composition comprising hypromellose having methoxy group content of 28.0 to 30.0% by weight and hydroxypropoxy group content of 7.6 to 8.5% by weight, wherein a 2% by weight aqueous solution of the hypromellose provides a viscosity at 20&#xb0; C. of 4.0 to 6.5 mPa&#xb7;s, a 20% by weight dispersion of the hypromellose provides a viscosity at 50&#xb0; C. of 2,000 to 11,000 mPa&#xb7;s, and a 20% by weight aqueous solution of the hypromellose provides a gelation temperature of 54 to 57&#xb0; C.; and a solvent.

Provided are a method for producing a water-soluble cellulose ether having a low degree of polymerization and enhanced whiteness, and the like. The method includes the steps of: bringing a pulp powder having a multiplication product of less than 0.004 mmwhich is obtained by multiplying a number-average fiber length by a number-average fiber width, each measured with a Kajaani fiber length analyzer, into contact with an alkali metal hydroxide to obtain an alkali cellulose; reacting the alkali cellulose with an etherifying agent to obtain a crude water-soluble cellulose ether having a high degree of polymerization; purifying the crude water-soluble cellulose ether; drying the purified water-soluble cellulose ether; grinding the dried water-soluble cellulose ether into a water-soluble cellulose ether powder; and depolymerizing the water-soluble cellulose ether powder to obtain the water-soluble cellulose ether having a low degree of polymerization.
