A friction material includes a friction modifier, a binder, and a fibrous material. An alkali metal salt of phosphoric acid and a metal sulfide are contained as the friction modifier. The alkali metal salt of phosphoric acid may include trisodium phosphate. A wax containing, as a main component, an ester of a higher fatty acid and a higher alcohol may be contained as the friction modifier.

Friction material

A friction material includes granulated hematite fired particle. The granulated hematite fired particle has 25 μm to 300 μm of an average particle diameter. The granulated hematite fired particle has 30 mm/g to 300 mm/g of a fine pore volume.

A friction material composition of the present invention includes a fibrous base, a friction regulator, and a binder and has a copper content of 0.5 mass % or less in terms of copper element amount. The friction material composition contains regenerated cellulosic fibers as the fibrous base. In an embodiment of the friction material composition, the regenerated cellulose fiber has a fiber length of 2 mm to 20 mm.

Friction material composition and friction material

A friction material includes a bio-soluble inorganic fiber and a metal sulfide. A content of the bio-soluble inorganic fiber based on the friction material is 7% by volume or more. The friction material includes no copper component and no metal fiber. The friction material may further include zinc.

A friction material includes a fiber base material, a friction modifying material and a binder. The friction modifying material includes alumina particles including, as a main component, &#x3b8;-alumina particles. The &#x3b8;-alumina particles are contained in an amount of 1 mass % or more in the friction material.

A vehicular disc brake rotor is provided with a cast-iron base, a nitrogen diffusion layer formed on the cast-iron base, a nitrogen compound layer formed on the nitrogen diffusion layer, and an iron oxide layer including FeOand formed on the nitrogen compound layer. In a burnish and a first re-burnish of a 'Passenger car-Braking device-Dynamometer test procedures' (which is based on JASO C 406:2000), a change ratio of a frictional coefficient between the burnish and the first re-burnish is 10% or less.

A cast-iron friction member is manufactured by: performing a nitrocarburizing treatment on a cast workpiece at a treatment temperature of 500&#xb0; C. to 600&#xb0; C. to thus form a nitrogen compound layer on a surface of the workpiece; and exposing the workpiece to an atmosphere when a temperature becomes 400&#xb0; C. to 480&#xb0; C. after the nitrocarburizing treatment so as to cool the workpiece to a room temperature while keeping a contact state with oxygen to thus form an iron oxide layer including FeOon a surface of the nitrogen compound layer.
