There is provided an electrode for a lithium secondary battery where particles, composed of an active material capable of occluding and releasing lithium, are arranged on a current collector, the active material particle being directly bonded to the surface of the current collector in a state where the bottom of the active material particle is imbedded in a concave portion formed on the surface of the current collector. A second particle layer may be provided on a first particle layer comprising the active material particles directly bonded to the surface of the current collector.

Electrode for lithium secondary battery and lithium secondary battery

A lithium secondary battery having high capacity and good charge-discharge cycle performance is provided. The lithium secondary battery includes a negative electrode () containing silicon as a negative electrode active material, a positive electrode () containing a positive electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode active material is a lithium-transition metal composite oxide including a layered structure represented by the chemical formula LiNiMnCoO, where a, x, y, and z satisfy the expressions: 0&#x2266;a&#x2266;1.3, x+y+z=1, 0&#x3c;x, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.5, and 0&#x2266;z.), and the theoretical electrical capacity ratio of the positive electrode to the negative electrode (positive electrode/negative electrode) is 1.2 or less.

Lithium secondary battery

A lithium secondary battery having improved load characteristics such as high rate discharge properties is obtained by using a mixed cathode active material comprising a mixture of lithium-containing manganese oxide having a spinel type crystal structure and lithium-containing cobalt oxide, wherein the cathode collector retains mixed cathode active material in such a manner that the mixing ratio of lithium cobaltate X thereof should fall in a range of 0.1&lE;X&lE;0.9, that the bulk density Y (g/cm ) of the cathode mixed agent should be confined in a range satisfying the relation of 0.5X&plus;2.7&lE;Y&lE;0.6X&plus;3.3, and that the mean particle diameter of spinel type lithium manganate should be greater than the mean particle diameter of lithium cobaltate.

Mixed cathode active material for lithium secondary battery

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery characterized as using a mixture of a first oxide and a second oxide for its positive electrode material. The first oxide is a spinel oxide consisting substantially of lithium, manganese, a metal other than manganese, and oxygen. The second oxide is different in composition from the first oxide and consists substantially of lithium, nickel, cobalt, a metal other than nickel and cobalt, and oxygen.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A nonaqueous electrolyte rechargeable battery including a positive electrode comprising a molybdenum metal oxide deposited, in the form of a thin film, on an aluminum-containing substrate and represented by the formula Mo M O (where M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, W, Sc, Ti, Zn, Ga, Ge, Nb, Rh, Pd and Sn, x satisfies the relationship 0.005&lE;x&lE;0.5, and y satisfies the relationship 0.6&lE;y&lE;1.2).

Nonaqueous electrolyte rechargeable battery

The present invention provides a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having the positive electrode active material. The positive electrode active material includes a complex oxide wherein said complex oxide is substantially amorphous and comprises Mn and M; where M is selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Si, Sc, Ti, Zn, Ga, Ge, Nb, Rh, Pd and Sn; and the molar weighted sum of oxidation states of elements except for oxygen is more than 3.8 and not greater than 4.2. More preferably, a mole ratio of Mn and M (Mn:M) is in a range of 99:1&tilde;70:30.

Positive electrode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

The invention provides a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery including a composite oxide powder having a median diameter of 3.0 through 20.0 &mgr;m and a content of particles with a grain size of 1 &mgr;m or less of 10% by volume or less and being represented by a composition formula, Li,Co,M,Ni,O,, in which M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of B, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Y, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, In and Sn; 0&lE;a&lE;1.2; 0.01&lE;b&lE;0.4; 0.01&lE;c&lE;0.4; and 0.02&lE;b&plus;c&lE;0.5. Thus, the lithium secondary battery can be improved in its charge-discharge cycle characteristic.

A non-aqueous electrolyte battery according to the invention includes a positive electrode using a lithium-metal compound oxide as a positive electrode material, a negative electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution, the battery employing a positive electrode material composed of the lithium-metal compound oxide which contains at least Ni, Co and Mn, and has a peak with a full width at half maximum of not greater than 0.22.degree. in a range of 2.theta.=18.71.+-.0.25.degree. as measured by the powder X-ray diffraction analysis using a Cu-K.alpha. X-ray source or employing a positive electrode material composed of a lithium-metal compound oxide which contains at least Ni, Co and Mn, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution which includes a solvent containing ethylene carbonate and a solute containing at least one type of fluorine-containing compound.
