The image playback device includes an input part that inputs images, an image output part that selects a plurality of images from the input images and sequentially outputs the plurality of images, and an output controlling part that, when an image is additionally input to the input part during output of the images by the image output part. Alternatively, the image playback device includes an image output part, an audio playback part a playback time calculation part, and an output controlling part that plays back the audio by the audio playback part while outputting the images from the image output part in accordance with the time calculated by the playback time calculation part, and when an image is added to the images, the playback time calculation part calculates time for outputting the images and the additional image in accordance with remaining playback time of the audio.

An image reading apparatus can read images on film and is capable of alternating between 35 mm film and a roll of film. The apparatus includes a light source, a photoelectric converter, a film transport that transports film past a reading position to which the light is emitted and the photoelectric converter reads, and two insertion openings. The light source illuminates the film so that the photoelectric converter can read the illuminated images and output an image signal. The film transport transports the film to the reading position. A first insertion opening is used for inserting a roll of film (e.g., in a cartridge), while a second insertion opening is used for inserting 35 mm film (e.g., on a film mount).

An image reading apparatus for imaging an original document or photographic film includes an original placement bed on which to place the original, and a reading device to form an image of the original. A transparent original adapter, detachably connected to the image reading apparatus, includes a delivery device that moves the original along an original placement plane of the original placement bed. The transparent original adapter also includes a lighting device that illuminates the original as the reading device forms the image of the original. A film position adjustment device adjusts the original away from the original placement plane when the original is moved, and against the original when the image of the original is read by the reading device.

An image processing method includes the steps of resolving the color of an image on a transparent original to extract an infrared component, detecting the level of the infrared component, detecting the defect infrared component level at the defect position on the transparent original where the infrared component level becomes lower than a first infrared level, obtaining a correction factor by calculating (first infrared component level)/(defect infrared component level) on the basis of the first infrared component level and defect infrared component level, resolving the color of the image on the transparent original to extract a visible component, detecting the visible component level of the visible component, and calculating the corrected visible component level by multiplying the defect visible component level at the defect position on the transparent original by the correction factor.

An image reading system and computer readable medium storing control procedures thereof, to obtain a final image by displaying a plurality of images read under various image reading conditions and comparing the images. The image reading system includes an image reading device that divides an image into a plurality of areas, reads the plurality of areas and outputs image signals corresponding to the plurality of areas. A reading condition input device sets first and second reading conditions under which the image is read. An image processing device converts an image signal corresponding to a first area, among the plurality of areas, into a first image signal based on the first image reading condition, and converts an image signal corresponding to a second area into a second image signal based on the second image reading condition. A display displays respective images according to the first and second image signals.

The normal program storing portion stores a normal program containing a control procedure of the program rewriting apparatus and a spare rewriting program. In a first period, the control device overwrites the received normal and spare rewriting programs on the normal program storing portion. In a second period different from the first period, the control device copies the spare rewriting program overwritten on the normal program storing portion to the rewriting program storing portion in accordance with the overwritten normal program.

A film scanner generates and stores data for display on a display monitor of a host Computer. A user can use the film scanner and the host computer to view thumbnail images recorded on a film roll and to verify, create, or adjust information recorded on the film roll. The information recorded on the film roll includes data regarding a) the film roll, b) images on the film roll, and c) parameters for printing the images. In particular, the data includes selections of film image frames for which duplicate prints are desired, as well as information regarding the type and characteristics of the film and shooting conditions for each exposed frame of the film. The film scanner can record data onto, and read is data from, magnetic regions of the film. The film scanner can also read bar code information recorded on the film.

An image reading system to easily obtain a desired final image by displaying a plurality of images read under various image reading conditions for a direct comparison, and an image reading apparatus to output image data read under the various reading conditions with a single reading operation, and a memory medium to store the control procedures thereof. The image reading system includes an image reading device to read the image of a document by dividing the image into a plurality of areas and to output image signals corresponding to the plurality of areas. A reading condition input device sets a first and a second reading condition under which the image is read. An image processing device converts the image signal corresponding to a first area, among the plurality of areas, into a first image signal based on the first image reading condition, and converts the image signal corresponding to a second area into a second image reading based on the second image reading condition. A display then displays respective images according to the first and second image signals.
