A communication method executed by a processor included in a relay device, the communication method includes receiving a target packet among a plurality of segmented packets generated by dividing a transmission packet, the plurality of segmented packets including a same identifier as that of the transmission packet; storing the target packet into a memory, when no error is detected from the target packet; discarding one or more packets stored in the memory and including a same identifier as that of the target packet, when an error is detected from the target packet; generating a discard request including an identifier of the transmission packet, and information requesting to discard a packet including the identifier, when the discarded one or more packets do not include a head packet among the plurality of segmented packets; and transmitting the discard request to a transmission destination to which the head packet is transmitted.

Relay device, communication system, and communication method

An apparatus includes first, second, and spare ports, where first data having a data length less than a predetermined value is transmitted from the first port and second data having a data length not less than the predetermined value is transmitted from the second port. The apparatus obtains a first determination result indicating whether input data is the first data or the second data and a second determination result indicating whether a transmission rate of each of the first and second ports is equal to or greater than a threshold. The apparatus sorts the input data to one of the first, second, and spare ports, based on the first and second determination results. The apparatus fragments the second data and transmit the fragmented second data to the spare port when both the first data and the second data are sorted to the spare port.

Apparatus and method for fragmenting transmission data

A communication apparatus includes a high-priority link configured to transmit one or more high-priority packets that have a priority level greater than or equal to a given level; a plurality of low-priority links that are optically coupled to the same transmission destination as the high-priority link and are configured to transmit one or more low-priority packets that have a priority level less than the given level; a first distribution circuit configured to select the one or more high-priority packets from among input packets and distribute the selected one or more high-priority packets to the high-priority link; and a second distribution circuit configured to individually distribute one or more remaining input packets, which are the input packets that have not been distributed to the high-priority link by the first distribution circuit, to the plurality of low-priority links based on distribution information about distributing packets to the plurality of low-priority links.

Communication apparatus and packet distribution method

A control scheme is disclosed for controlling establishment of a standby channel route for an active channel route in a GMPLS network made up of plural transmission apparatuses. The standby channel route is formed by at least one standby channel route transmission apparatus, an ingress transmission apparatus, and an egress transmission apparatus. The control scheme involves transmitting from the ingress transmission apparatus to the standby channel route transmission apparatus a standby channel path establishing message including pre-reserve information for directing the standby channel route transmission apparatus to pre-reserve a standby channel path of the standby channel route, and setting the standby channel path to pre-reserved status within a band management table of the standby channel route transmission apparatus. The standby channel path that is set to pre-reserved status within the standby channel route transmission apparatus is externally recognized as free by the other transmission apparatuses.
