An absorbent composition containing cellulose nanofibers and a cellulose derivative and a method for making the same are disclosed. The cellulose derivative has a viscosity of 1000 mPa·s or higher in a 1 mass % aqueous solution at 25° C. and a degree of etherification of less than 0.9. The cellulose derivative is preferably at least one member selected from the group consisting of carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxyethyl cellulose, a carboxymethyl cellulose salt, and a carboxyethyl cellulose salt, more preferably a carboxymethyl cellulose salt, even more preferably sodium carboxymethyl cellulose.

Absorbent article

A stretchable absorbent core () includes a stretchable base sheet (), and a plurality of separate and independent absorbers () disposed at least on one side of the base sheet (). The absorbers () are fixed to the base sheet () through respective fixing points () in such a design that the shape of each absorber is not deformed upon stretch of the base sheet (). The stretchable absorbent core () exhibits stretchability between the fixing points (). It is preferable that the stretchable absorbent core () does not exhibit stretchability at the fixing points ().

Stretchable absorbent core

An absorbent member () of the invention has a hydrophilic continuous fiber web () and lumpy particles of an absorbent polymer () held in the web (). The absorbent polymer () is localized in part in a planar or thickness direction of the absorbent member (). The continuous fibers in a region (M) in a planar direction of the web () where the absorbent polymer is distributed are in a state cut into a large number of staple fibers (). A method of producing an absorbent member includes the step of spreading lumpy particles of an absorbent polymer () on a continuous fiber web () and pressing the continuous fibers in part of the web () onto the absorbent polymer () to cut the continuous fibers.

Absorbent member and method of producing the same

An absorbent article () includes a topsheet (), a backsheet (), and an absorbent core (). The absorbent core () includes a number of discretely and independently arranged absorbent members () located across a planar direction of the article (). An intermediate sheet () is disposed between the topsheet () and the absorbent core () or between the backsheet () and the absorbent core (). The absorbent members () are fixed to the intermediate sheet (). It is preferable that an absorption rate of physiological saline solution measured by D/W method of each of the topsheet (), the intermediate sheet (), and the absorbent core () satisfies the following relationship: the topsheet ()&#x3c;the intermediate sheet ()&#x3c;the absorbent core ().
