Optical apparatuses used for so-called immersive virtual reality (VR), as it is, can not be used for augmented reality (AR) that overlays external light and images. An optical apparatus to overlay image light on external light and guide resultant light in a downstream side, including: an image optical system including an optical element having lens power with respect to at least the image light; and a reflecting element to overlay, by reflecting at least part of the image light, the at least part of the image light and the at least part of the external light, wherein the image optical system has a GPH element having inverse dispersibility that is inverse to the wavelength dispersibility of the optical element.

Optical apparatus

A polarizing device having a synthetic resin film of a polarizing plate sandwiched and bonded between two glass members. At least a surface on one side of the polarizing plate is bonded to one of glass members by the use of a tackiness agent. Adjoining surfaces of the two glass members, which are located on the side of the sandwiched polarizing plate, are finished to a high degree of planeness, and at least one of the two glass members is in the form of a resilient glass plate capable of flexural deformation in a lateral direction.

A transmissive phase plate with a function of correcting direction of polarization of light rays in an incident divergent or convergent light flux in addition to functions as a wave plate. Conditions of polarization of incident light rays are corrected by a polarization-correcting optical multi-layer coating which is formed by alternately depositing a high refractivity layer and a low refractivity layer on curved substrative surface of a predetermined radius of curvature. The transmissive phase plate can be applied to correct conditions of polarization of incident light rays of a polarized beam splitter for the purpose of improving contrast ratio of a projection display.
