There is provided a technology that supports selection of a label to be used for analysis of target molecules. The present technology provides a label selection support system including an information acquisition unit that obtains, via a network, information associated with a plurality of target molecules to be analyzed, an information processor that obtains, using the information associated with a plurality of target molecules and generates support information associated with assignment of a label to each of the plurality of target molecules on the basis of the expression information, and a transmitter that transmits the generated support information via the network.

The wavefront adjuster is configured to adjust a wavefront of a femtosecond pulsed laser beam incident on an ocular fundus to be examined. The detector is configured to detect fluorescence generated in a multi-photon excitation process by the femtosecond pulsed laser beam incident on the ocular fundus to be examined. The wavefront adjuster is further configured to adjust the wavefront so that an intensity of the fluorescence to be detected by the detector becomes a maximum value.

The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for separating nucleic acids. A carrier may include a porous microbead having cation-exchangeable groups attached to the surface of the porous microbead. Capturing chains modified with positively charged functional groups and having a base sequence complementary to a target nucleic acid chain sequence are immobilized on to the surface of the porous microbead. In various embodiments, capturing chains are immobilized on to the surface of the porous microbead through an ion exchange bond or a covalent bond with the cation-exchangeable groups of the porous microbead. In some cases, the porous microbead has a number of through pores adapted to permit a solution to pass rapidly through the through pores and a number of diffusive pores adapted to permit a solute of the solution to diffuse into the diffusive pores. A solution having a target nucleic acid chain corresponding to the target nucleic acid chain sequence of the capturing chains may be passed through a channel that is packed with porous microbeads so as to result in hybridization of the capturing chain and the target nucleic acid chain. The porous microbeads may be structured such that the pressure in the channel upon passing of the solution through the channel does not build significantly.

The microbead is formed in a columnar shape having a top surface and a bottom surface facing each other, as placed almost in parallel, and a side surface extending therefrom, and carries an identification pattern formed on at least one of the top surface and the bottom surface and a substance immobilized on a surface thereof having affinity to an analyte substance. The method includes detecting fluorescence emitted from the microbead surface due to interaction of the analyte substance with the substance having affinity to the analyte substance from a region including a region of the top surface and the bottom surface where there is no identification pattern formed and the side surface.

A refrigerator-freezer includes a first evaporator cooling an atmosphere in a refrigerating compartment, a second evaporator cooling an atmosphere in a freezing compartment and a controller controlling a switching valve in a refrigerating cycle so that a cooling operation is switched between a first operation mode in which refrigerant compressed by a compressor is supplied at least to the first evaporator and a second operation mode in which the refrigerant compressed by the compressor is supplied at least to the second evaporator. The controller stops the compressor when a temperature in either one of the refrigerating and freezing compartments for which the cooling operation is unexecuted is below a predetermined upper limit temperature in a case where a temperature in the other compartment for which the cooling operation is in progress drops to a predetermined lower limit temperature.
