Obtained is a configuration of a stereoscopic display device wherein luminance variation and increase of crosstalk can be reduced over a period before and after the switching of the parallax barrier. The stereoscopic display device includes: a display panel for displaying an image with a plurality of pixels; a switch liquid crystal panel that is arranged so as to be stacked on the display panel; a position sensor for acquiring position information of a viewer; and a control unit for moving a parallax barrier in which transmitting regions and non-transmitting regions are formed in periodic fashion in a predetermined alignment direction, in such a manner that the parallax barrier is moved in the predetermined alignment direction in accordance with the position information, with use of a predetermined barrier switching pitch as a minimum unit, and causing the switch liquid crystal panel to display the parallax barrier. The plurality of pixels have openings each of which has a width A in the alignment direction, the width A satisfying the expressions of A&#x2264;Wsl&#x2212;2Pe, and A&#x2264;Wbr&#x2212;2Pe where Wsl is a width of the transmitting region, Wbr is a width of the non-transmitting region BR, and Pe is the barrier switching pitch.

Stereoscopic display device

A stereoscopic display device () of the present invention includes a display panel (), a switch liquid crystal panel (), a first polarizing plate () and a second polarizing plate (), and a control unit for moving a parallax barrier in which transmitting regions and non-transmitting regions are formed in periodic fashion in a predetermined alignment direction, in such a manner that the parallax barrier is moved in the predetermined alignment direction in accordance with position information, and causing the switch liquid crystal panel () to display the parallax barrier. A first alignment film () and a second alignment film () of the switch liquid crystal panel () are rubbed so that molecule long axes of liquid crystal molecules in the vicinities of the center of a liquid crystal layer () in the thickness direction in a state where no voltage is applied are oriented in a direction perpendicular to the alignment direction as viewed in a plan view. Retardation of the liquid crystal layer () is in a range of 380 nm to 466 nm both inclusive when an intersection angle that is an angle formed between a rubbing direction of the first alignment film () and a transmission axis of the first polarizing plate () is in a range of 0&#xb0; exclusive to 18&#xb0; inclusive, and is in a range of 410 nm to 450 nm both inclusive when the intersection angle is in a range of 18&#xb0; exclusive to 45&#xb0; inclusive.

A display device () includes a display panel (), a switch liquid crystal panel (), and a control unit (). The switch liquid crystal panel () includes a transparent electrode () provided in an active area (AA) on at least one of a first substrate () and a second substrate (), and a metal line () provided outside the active area (AA) on at least one of the first substrate () and the second substrate (), along four sides of the active area (AA).

Obtained is a configuration of a stereoscopic display device that allows a viewer to easily correct settings for stereoscopic display. A stereoscopic display device () includes: a display panel () for displaying an image; a switch liquid crystal panel () that is arranged so as to be stacked on the display panel (); a position sensor for acquiring position information of a viewer; and a control unit for causing the switch liquid crystal panel () to display a parallax barrier in which transmitting regions and non-transmitting regions are formed in periodic fashion in a predetermined alignment direction. A stereoscopic display device is provided where the luminance variation encountered when the parallax barrier is switched is reduced for viewing from a wide region. The stereoscopic display device includes: a display panel that displays an image; a switch liquid crystal panel disposed to overlie the display panel and including a liquid crystal layer; a position sensor that obtains positional information about a viewer; and a control unit that receives the positional information from the position sensor and locally applies to the liquid crystal layer a first voltage for rendering the switch liquid crystal panel translucent and a second voltage for rendering the switch liquid crystal panel non-translucent to display a parallax barrier that depends on the positional information. Disclosed is a stereoscopic display device that can reduce moir&#xe9; that occurs due to light-shielding areas in the aperture of pixels. The stereoscopic display device includes a display panel and a parallax barrier. The display panel has a plurality of pixels and displays a stereoscopic image. In the parallax barrier, the direction in which transmissive and non-transmissive parts are alternately arranged is the first direction and the lengthwise direction of the non-transmissive parts is the second direction. There is a boundary that extends in the second direction between two pixels next to each other in the first direction. There are light-shielding areas in the aperture of each pixel. There is a space between the boundary and the light-shielding areas. Of two pixels next to each other in the second direction, the light-shielding areas in the aperture of one pixel are shifted in the first direction with respect to the light-shielding areas in the aperture of the other pixel.

The objective is to provide a stereoscopic display device that can be switched among 2D display mode, 3D display mode and mirror mode. The device includes: a display panel (); a switch liquid crystal panel (); an absorptive polarizer (); and a reflective polarizer (). The switch liquid crystal panel () is located closer to the viewer than the display panel () is. The absorptive polarizer () is located closer to the viewer than the switch liquid crystal panel () is. The device includes: a display panel (); a switch liquid crystal panel (); an absorptive polarizer (); and a reflective polarizer ().
