An optical connector jig for connecting a second optical connector to a first optical connector, or disconnecting the second optical connector from the first optical connector, includes a first housing and a second housing. The first housing includes a positioning portion to determine a position of the jig with respect to the first optical connector in cooperation with a member indicating a position of the first optical connector. The second housing grips the second optical connector such that, when the jig is positioned with respect to the first optical connector, a connection surface of the second optical connector faces a connection surface of the first optical connector. The second housing moves with respect to the first housing such that the connection surface of the gripped second optical connector is close to or away from the connection surface of the first optical connector.

An optical apparatus includes a light emitting apparatus and a host apparatus. The light emitting apparatus includes a housing extending in a first direction, a light emitting device mounted in the housing, an optical connector including a first optical connection part provided at one end of the housing, and an electrical connector including a first electrical connection part provided at one end of the housing and receiving a voltage to drive the light emitting device. The host apparatus includes a host optical connector including a second optical connection part which faces the first optical connection part and is optically coupled thereto, a host electrical connector including a second electrical connection part facing the first electrical connection part and being electrically connected to the first electrical connection part, and a host board mounting the host optical connector and the host electrical connector thereon. The light emitting apparatus is connected to the host apparatus in the optical apparatus.

A fusion splicer for fusion-splicing a first group of optical fibers and a second group of optical fibers by arc discharge is disclosed. The fusion splicer includes first and second electrode rods, first and second fiber holding parts, and a first shield. The electrode rods generate the arc discharge therebetween. The first fiber holding part has a first plurality of V-grooves positioning the first group of optical fibers. The second fiber holding part has a second plurality of V-grooves positioning the second group of optical fibers. The first shield is located between the first and second plurality of V-grooves and the first electrode rod in a direction along a center line connecting a tip of the first electrode rod to a tip of the second electrode rod. The first shield is formed of an insulating material having heat resisting properties withstanding 1000 or more degrees Celsius.

Fusion splicer and method for fusion-splicing optical fibers

An optical connector ferrule according to an embodiment includes an MT ferrule, and a spacer mounted on an optical end surface of the MT ferrule and having a guide hole into which a guide pin is inserted. The spacer has a contact surface that contacting the counterpart connector and a recess surrounded by the contact surface. The spacer includes a lens part exposed on a bottom surface of the recess and optically coupled to the optical end surface of the MT ferrule and a base part that retains the lens part by surrounding the lens part. The material of the lens part and the material of the base part are different from each other, and the difference between the linear expansion coefficient of the base part and the linear expansion coefficient of the MT ferrule is 0.5&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. or less.

An optical connector according to an embodiment includes: an optical fiber extending along a connecting direction; a front housing in a tubular shape including a first opening and a second opening; a ferrule configured to retain the optical fibers and having a light incidence-emission part optically connected to a corresponding connector; a pin keeper configured to retain a guide pin inserted into the ferrule; and a rear housing fixed with the second opening covered and configured to support the coil spring in the inside of the front housing. The rear housing has an insertion hole into which the optical fiber is insertable from a direction intersecting with the connecting direction.

Optical connector and method of producing optical connector

An optical connector having a shutter is disclosed. The optical connector comprises an optical connection component configured to hold one or a plurality of optical fibers, and having a light incidence/emission end surface being movable in the connection direction with respect to the optical connection component; a second member having a shutter part that performs opening/closing of an opening, the second member being attached to the first member in a state of being rotatable around a rotation axis; a first sealing member contacting the first member over a whole circumference of the opening, the first sealing member also contacting the shutter part over the whole circumference of the opening when the shutter part is in a closed state; and a linkage mechanism that rotates the second member in conjunction with movement of the first member along the connection direction with respect to the optical connection component.

Optical connector, multiple optical connector, and optical connection structure

An optical connector ferrule comprises a body and a spacer. The body has a flat ferrule end surface facing a corresponding optical connector, and an optical fiber retaining hole opened in the ferrule end surface, an optical fiber being inserted and retained in the optical fiber retaining hole. The spacer is joined to the body, and at least a portion of the spacer is disposed on the ferrule end surface. The spacer defines an interval between the ferrule end surface and the corresponding optical connector, and includes an opening that allows an optical path extending from the optical fiber to pass therethrough.

Optical connector ferrule and optical connection structure

An optical connector ferrule includes optical fiber holding hole holding an inserted optical fiber, a ferrule end face facing a coupled-side optical connector ferrule, a lens structure provided on an axis line of the optical fiber holding hole on the ferrule end face, and an inspection hole formed along the optical fiber holding hole. The ferrule end face is flat on at least an axis line of the inspection hole, and refractive-index distribution in an area between the ferrule end face and a back side thereof is uniform.

A receptacle connector comprises a receptacle ferrule, and a receptacle housing including a cavity housing the receptacle ferrule and a cavity housing a plug connector. The receptacle ferrule includes an optical coupling surface (front surface). An opening area of the cavity on a cross section vertical to an inserting direction of the plug connector to the receptacle housing is smaller than an opening area of the cavity on the cross section vertical to the inserting direction. In a second state after being optically coupled, the optical coupling surface (front surface) is positioned inside the cavity.

A receptacle connector includes a receptacle ferrule, a receptacle housing and a spacer. The receptacle ferrule has a first front end portion having a receptacle interface part In the receptacle housing, the receptacle ferrule and a plug connector having a second front end portion having a plug interface part configured to be optically coupled with the receptacle interface part are to be accommodated. The spacer has a first surface configured to contact the first front end portion, and a second surface configured to contact the second front end portion. The spacer is arranged in the receptacle housing. At a state where the first front end portion is contacted to the first surface of the spacer and the second front end portion is contacted to the second surface of the spacer, the receptacle interface part and the plug interface part face each other at a predetermined interval.

An adapter includes an optical connector accommodation part having a first cavity in which a first optical connector having a first front end portion is to be accommodated, and a second cavity in which a second optical connector having a second front end portion is to be accommodated, and a spacer having a first surface configured to contact the first front end portion, a second surface configured to contact the second front end portion, and a light transmission part configured to enable a light beam to pass therethrough. The spacer being arranged between the first cavity and the second cavity. At a state where the first front end portion is contacted to the first surface and the second front end portion is contacted to the second surface, the first optical interface part and the second optical interface part face each other at a predetermined interval.
