A fishing reel is described whose spool has a pair of first and second flanges, the first flange located at the side for drawing out a fishing line for casting and being smaller in diameter than the second flange. An annular edge is provided at said first flange outer circumference projecting forward of a reel body. The spool slidably supports a sliding cylinder having a fishing line guide in close contact with the projecting edge, so that a change of bulk of line wound onto the spool allows the sliding cylinder to slide, whereby contact resistance applied to the line which is drawn out in contact with the first flange is controlled so as not to increase correspondingly with the length of the drawn-out line.

Fishing reel

A spinning type fishing reel having a bail arm which is rotatably mounted at both ends thereof to diametrically opposite sides of a rotary frame so that an intermediate portion of the bail arm may turn over and pass across the front of a spool in swinging motion between two positions where a fishing line is respectively guided to be wound up, and released. The point around which the bail arm swings is made movable longitudinally of the reel, thereby allowing the bail arm to be turned over by elongating the distance between a crest of the intermediate portion of the bail arm and the basic position where the arm is supported for guiding therethrough the line to be wound onto the spool.

Spinning type fishing reel

Disclosed is an arrangement for shifting a bail arm in a longitudinal direction relative to the spool of a spinning type fishing reel. A spinning type fishing reel generally has a bail arm mounted at both its opposite ends around a rotary frame so that an intermediate portion of the arm is swingable across the front of a spool. The swing axis of respective ends of the bail arm are made slant backwardly of the reel with respect to a plane lying perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rotary frame so that the intermediate portion may, when swinging, be shifted radially forwardly of the spool.
