A workpiece having an outer peripheral portion rotationally symmetric about a symmetry axis can be inspected with high-accuracy while reducing cycle time of the inspection. In an inspection for each of the workpieces, on the basis of the image of the workpiece acquired by executing a first step of capturing an image of the workpiece while holding the workpiece at a pre-alignment position using a holding table and rotating the workpiece about a rotary axis, a position of the workpiece at the holding table is corrected so as to eliminate misalignment of the symmetry axis with respect to the rotary axis. Thereafter, on the basis of the image acquired by executing a fifth step of capturing an image of the workpiece while rotating the workpiece about the rotary axis at an inspection position, the workpiece is inspected. In the inspection of the workpiece, the fifth step for a previous workpiece of two consecutive workpieces and the first step for a next workpiece are executed in parallel with each other.

A coating material applying apparatus according to this invention includes a guide board, a droplet spray nozzle head, and an ultraviolet light emitting device. The guide board has numerous suction bores formed in a surface thereof and connected to a vacuum pump. The droplet spray nozzle head is disposed opposite the guide board, and has numerous droplet spray nozzles. The nozzles spray ultraviolet-curable varnish to printing paper transported toward a paper discharge station. A multi-color offset printing apparatus includes first and second plate cylinders and each having a plate mounted peripherally thereof, the plate defining two image areas, first and second blanket cylinders and equal in diameter to the first and second plate cylinders and and rotatable in contact with the first and second plate cylinders and , respectively, and an impression cylinder having a gripper disposed peripherally thereof for holding a forward end of printing paper, the impression cylinder being rotatable in contact with the first and second blanket cylinders and . In this multi-color offset printing apparatus, the impression cylinder is rotated at least four times, with the printing paper held in place by the gripper , before starting a printing operation. This step creates a state of ink saturation on the first and second blanket cylinders and prior to the printing operation.

Multi-color offset printing method and apparatus

A gravure engraving system that capable of successively engraving each of a plurality of gravure cylinders through no intermediary of a manual operation, includes a transport device for transporting a gravure cylinder. The transport device is disposed between an engraving machine for engraving the circumferential surface of a gravure cylinder and a stock device which stores a plurality of gravure cylinders. A predetermined gravure cylinder is selected out of the gravure cylinders stared in the stock device and transported to the engraving machine by the transport device. After the transported gravure cylinder has been automatically set on the engraving machine, the gravure cylinder is engraved. Thereafter, the transport device transports the engraved gravure cylinder to the stock device where the engraved gravure cylinder is stored.

System for engraving a plurality of gravure rolls

A printing apparatus for printing a printing-paper is provided with two plate cylinders each holding a plate, two blanket cylinders coming into contact with the plate cylinders respectively and a single impression cylinder coming into contact with these blanket cylinders. Each plate has two printing areas. The two plate cylinders and the two blanket cylinders have the same diameter, which is twice that of the impression cylinder. The impression cylinder is in contact with a feed cylinder and a removal cylinder, and a reverse cylinder is provided to be in contact with the feed cylinder and the removal cylinder. The printing apparatus performs printing corresponding to one of the printing areas of each plate on a single surface of the printing-paper, reverses the printing-paper, and performs printing corresponding to the remaining printing area of each plate on another surface of the printing-paper. Thus, the printing apparatus can execute two-color printing on both surfaces without exchanging inks, despite its compactness.

Printing apparatus

A digital printer of the present invention employs a single laser depress unit. In a prepress process, an impression cylinder is used as a plate retention member for holding four printing plates. Image formation on the four printing plates held on the impression cylinder is achieved by way of the single laser prepress unit disposed adjacent to the periphery of the impression cylinder. The printing plates thus prepressed are transported from the impression cylinder to plate cylinders. After the printing plates are mounted on the plate cylinders, a printing sheet is fed from a sheet feeding section to the impressing cylinder via a loading unit. Dampening water and color ink is applied to the plate cylinders 17 from dampening water units and inking units, respectively. The various colors of ink are respectively transferred onto blanket cylinders from the plate cylinder, and further transferred from the blanket cylinders onto the printing sheet on the impression cylinder.

In an electromechanical engraving system, rotogravure calibrating apparatus automatically adjusting the engraving operation of an engraving-head stylus of the system in real time by calibrating a stylus-actuating engraving signal according to a calibration factor relating printed image density to engraved cell depth for a designated engraving screen ruling corresponding to printed image resolution. The calibrating apparatus includes a cell observation and measuring device which obtains data for calculating cell size by imaging the form of individual test cells engraved by the stylus into the surface of a rotogravure printing cylinder, and an engraving signal calibrator which adjusts engraving signal control parameters according to the cell size calculation and to the calibration factor. The engraving signal calibrator derives an image-density/cell-depth reference characteristic computed according to cell size data from cells engraved to correspond to a representative series of test image densities at the designated screen ruling, and computes the calibration factor as a correction of the image-density/cell-depth reference characteristic, generating engraving signal gain data which accordingly adjust the engraving signal actuating the stylus. The engraving signal is rapidly and automatically adjusted through a simplified calibration of the stylus-actuating engraving signal, stabilizing stylus lateral displacement adjustments for consistency among printing operations.

Electromechanical rotogravure stylus automatic calibrator

A gravure engraving system that capable of successively engraving each of a plurality of gravure cylinders through no intermediary of a manual operation, includes a transport device for transporting a gravure cylinder. The transport device is disposed between an engraving machine for engraving the circumferential surface of a gravure cylinder and a stock device which stores a plurality of gravure cylinders. A predetermined gravure cylinder is selected out of the gravure cylinders stored in the stock device and transported to the engraving machine by the transport device. After the transported gravure cylinder has been automatically set on the engraving machine, the gravure cylinder is engraved. Thereafter, the transport device transports the engraved gravure cylinder to the stock device where the engraved gravure cylinder is stored.

An engraving mechanism for engraving gravure cylinders having an engraving head, an engraving head movement mechanism, a sensor coupled to the movement mechanism for sensing the relative position between the engraving head and the gravure cylinder, and a control unit connected to the sensor and the movement mechanism. The control unit has a CPU and memory to store data related to the engraving of one or more gravure cylinders to determine the length of the cylinder in response to movement of the engraving head and sensor information from the sensor, to determine an initial position for positioning the engraving head prior to each engraving operation based upon the length and diameter of the gravure cylinder, and to determine a gap between the engraving head and the cylinder prior to engraving. After the controller unit computes the diameter and length of the cylinder, it controls the movement mechanism to adjust a gap between the engraving head and the gravure cylinder and to position the engraving head lengthwise to the cylinder in an engraving start position. Thus, the engraving start position and the initial gap are automatically varied from one gravure cylinder to another.

Image data conversion processor converting a raster format of composed image data comprising line-work and picture data into a format of engraving pixel data for realizing a staggered-row screen of gravure printing cells, image density weighted for high-fidelity reproduction of tone value and line sharpness of an originally scanned image pattern. The dual-valued line-work pixels are in high concentration relative to the picture data pixels and are converted into multiple-valued line-work equivalent pixels in a picture-raster equivalent format. The multiple-valued line-work data and the picture data are assembled according to layout data operator controlled through a CRT to form the composed image data for conversion. A format converter in the processor maps the converted multiple-valued line-work equivalent pixels in the picture-raster equivalent format into gravure engraving pixels each corresponding to an engraved gravure cell of the stagger-format printing screen.

An optical beam scanning system for scanning photosensitive material (1) comprises a laser (201), a beam splitter (204) for producing multibeams (LB.sub.a, LB.sub.b), AOM's (207a, 207b), a multibeam adjuster (300) for turning the multibeams to intersect each other at a prescribed point (P.sub.C), a horizontal expander (211), an AOD (213), a vertical expander (214), a deflection direction adjuster (400) for rotating a deflection direction of the multibeams, and a variable focusing mechanism (500) comprising a plurality of object lenses (501-504). A pixel pitch and a spot diameter on the photosensitive material can be changed separately from each other by exchanging the object lenses and by adjusting an angle of intersection of multibeams (B.sub.a, B.sub.b) by means of the multibeam adjuster. Cylindrical lenses of the horizontal and vertical expanders are so positioned that they compensate a cylindrical lensing effect of the AOD.

An image reading and recording apparatus comprises a single housing, a moving type original holder provided on the housing, an image reading station including a fixed type image forming optical system provided in the uppermost portion of said housing, a magazine located in the housing horizontally adjacent to the image reading station, an image recording station located in the housing below the image reading station and an electrical control unit for image reading and for image recording located in the housing below the image recording station.

An apparatus for correcting snaking of rollfilm comprises a driving roller for feeding the rollfilm to the exposure position with the film being maintained flat, pinch rollers provided such that they can approach or be separated from the driving roller, switching means for switching between the abutment and separation of the pinch rollers and the driving roller, and cutting means for cutting the rollfilm.

Method and apparatus for correcting snaking in a rollfilm feeding

Printed wiring boards (PWBs) applied to this inspection system are previously formed with marks in prescribed positional relation to wiring patterns. Deviation of PWBs with respect to absolute coordinates of the inspection system is detected by reading the marks. The PWBs are sequentially set one by one on a movable table, to be subjected to image acquisition of the marks and inspected areas. A first PWB is image-acquisited whereby obtained binary image data of the inspected area are stored in a memory unit. Thereafter a second PWB is image-acquisited, and in advance to the image acquisition of its inspected area, relative misregistration of the both PWBs is found by deviation data on respective marks of the first and second PWBs. The binary image data of the first PWB is read from the memory unit on the basis of the binary image data of the second PWB. When the binary image data of the first PWB are read, positional correction, i.e., time base correction is performed on the read data to correspond to pixels of the second PWB under image acquisition on the basis of data on the previously found amount of relative misregistration. The data on corresponding pixels of the both PWBs are compared with each other thereby to inspect difference between the patterns of the PWBs on the basis of the result of the comparison.
