Disclosed is a catalyst suitable for hydrotreating hydrocarbonaceous oils which catalyst is comprised of at least one hydrogenative-active metal component supported on a carrier material comprised of about 20 to 60 weight percent of amorphous silica-alumina and about 80 to 40 weight percent of crystalline alumina having an average crystallite size of 35 .ANG., or less.

Hydrotreating catalysts

The present invention relates to a heat-resistant catalyst carrier and a catalyst carrier molding comprising silica and alumina, in which a silica content is in a range of 2% by weight to 30% by weight, and an overall pore volume is at least 0.3 ml/g and a volume of pores having a diameter of 100 .ANG. or larger accounts for at least 60% of the overall pore volume, or which have a specific surface area of at least 20 m.sup.2 /g after firing at 1200.degree. C. in air, or which show a peak area at -110 ppm to -130 ppm which is 0 to 10% with respect to a peak area at -50 ppm to -130 ppm, as measured by the nuclear magnetic resonance (.sup.29 Si-NMR) method using silicone rubber (-21.9 ppm) as a reference peak after firing at 500.degree. C. in air, and is also concerned with a catalyst for combustion comprising the same. The catalyst carriers and moldings can retain large pore volume and specific surface area even upon held under high-temperature and --humidity conditions over an extended period of time, while the catalysts for combustion can retain high reactivity with reduced or limited deactivation.

Heat-resistant catalyst carrier moldings and catalysts for combustion

Disclosed are immobilized electrolyte membranes having a high electric conductivity and a high mechanical strength, where an ionic conductor such as a polymer electrolyte or an ion-exchange resin is immobilized in pores of a porous solid polymer membrane, particularly of polyolefin having a weight average molecular weight of not less than 5.times.10.sup.5, the porous solid polymer membrane having a thickness of 0.1 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m, a porosity of 40% to 90%, a tensile strength of not less than 200 kg/cm.sup.2, and an average permeable pore diameter of 0.001 .mu.m to 0.1 .mu.m.

Immobilized electrolyte membrane

Novel primarily chain inorganic polysilazanes of average molecular weight of 690 to 2000 are prepared from novel adducts of a halosilane and a base by reacting the adducts with ammonia in unreactive solvents. Silicon nitride is prepared by heating the polysilazanes at 1000.degree. to 1600.degree. C., preferably below 1300.degree. C., most preferably 1000.degree. to 1100.degree. C.

Novel catalyst compositions are provided comprising a silica/alumina carrier having a silica content less than about 40% by weight and at least one noble metal component of Group VIII of the Periodic Table and wherein the catalyst contains (1) pores having a diameter of smaller than 600 .ANG. occupying at least 90% of the total pore volume and (2) pores having a diameter of 150 to 600 .ANG. occupying at least about 40% of the total volume of the pores having a diameter of smaller than 600 .ANG.. Hydrogenation process

Novel catalyst compositions are provided comprising a silica/alumina carrier having a silica content less than about 40% by weight and at least one noble metal component of Group VIII of the Periodic Table and wherein the catalyst contains (1) pores having a diameter of smaller than 600 A occupying at least 90% of the total pore volume and (2) pores having a diameter of 150 to 600 A occupying at least about 40% of the total volume of the pores having a diameter of smaller than 600 A. This catalyst is particularly useful in the production of jet fuels and white oils.

A catalyst and process are described for hydrofining petroleum wax comprising contacting the wax with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one metal hydrogenating component on a porous alumina/silica carrier containing from about 0.2 to 5 wt.% of an alkali metal component, the catalyst having a specific surface area of about 200 to 300 m.sup.2 /g and being further characterized in that (a) the volume of pores having a diameter in the range of 60 to 150 A is greater than 80% of the volume of pores having a diameter in the range of 0 to 150 A and (b) the volume of pores having a diameter in the range of 0 to 600 A is in the range of about 0.45 to 0.60 ml/g.

A hydro-refining catalyst comprising at least one hydrogenation metal component supported on an alumina or alumina-containing carrier containing from about 5 to about 25 wt. % silica, said catalyst having a specific surface area in the range of from about 250 to about 300 m.sup.2 /g and a pore volume distribution characterized in that (1) the volume of pores having a diameter of 60 to 150 A is at least about 80% of the volume of pores having a diameter of 0 to 150 A, (2) the volume of pores having a diameter of 150 to 300 A is less than about 20% of the volume of pores of 0 to 300 A, (3) the volume of pores having a diameter of 150 to 2,000 A is less than about 0.01 ml/g, (4) the volume of pores having a diameter of 0 to 600 A is in the range of from about 0.45 to about 0.60 ml/g. The catalyst is used in the hydro-refining of heavy hydrocarbon oils containing sulfur, nitrogen and metal contaminants.

Nitrogen oxides are removed from gaseous mixtures comprising the same by contacting with a catalyst comprising a base metal component carried on a natural or synthetic zeolite in the presence of ammonia. The alkali metal content of the zeolite is carefully controlled through ion exchange with an alkaline earth metal compound.

Nitrogen oxides are removed from gas mixtures containing nitrogen oxides and oxygen by adding a reducing agent that is a C.sub.2 to C.sub.6 olefin or an aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene or toluene, preferably butene-1, and contacting the mixture at 200.degree. to 450.degree. C with a catalyst comprising iridium or a compound thereof supported on a refractory carrier, preferably alumina.
