A non-destructive inspection method of inspecting an inspection target using multiple different types of non-destructive inspection means that include one non-destructive inspection means and at least one other non-destructive inspection means. The method includes determining a marking position on the inspection target in a detection result by the one non-destructive inspection means, causing a device to store the marking position, and fixedly forming a mark on the inspection target corresponding to the marking position. The mark is detectable by the other non-destructive inspection means. The method further includes causing the other non-destructive inspection means to inspect an inspection target including the mark. The method further includes contrasting detection results by the multiple different types of non-destructive inspection means in reference to the mark which is the marking position.

Non-destructive inspection method

The present invention addresses the issue of providing: a light-receiving element that has an absorption layer of germanium (Ge), is capable of efficiently receiving near infrared light having a large light-reception sensitivity in the absorption layer, from a free space, and has high productivity and low production cost; and a near infrared light detector comprising said light-receiving element. Light-receiving element and near infrared light detector

Disclosed is a manufacturing method for a light emitting device including a light emitting element and a wavelength converting part which converts light emitted from the light emitting element into light of another wavelength. The manufacturing method includes a first step and a second step. The first step is a step of applying onto the light emitting element and drying a first liquid mixture in which phosphor and plate-like particles are dispersed in polyhydric alcohol having a valence of two or more to form a phosphor layer. The second step is a step of applying onto the phosphor layer and firing a second liquid mixture in which a translucent ceramic precursor is dispersed in a solvent to form the wavelength converting part.

Manufacturing method for light emitting device and phosphor mixture

A light-emitting device () is provided with a metal part () atop a planar LED substrate (), and an LED element () is disposed atop the metal part (). A glass substrate () is provided to an upper surface of the LED element (), and a wavelength conversion part () is formed on an upper surface of the glass substrate (). The wavelength conversion part () comprises a light-transmissive ceramic layer formed by heating a mixture containing a phosphor, an organometallic compound, a layered silicate mineral, an inorganic particulate, an organic solvent, and water.

Light-emitting device and method for manufacturing same

An optical element for reflecting solar light has excellent weather resistance, and furthermore, a high reflectance in a wide band. When solar light enters an optical element (OE), light (L) in a short wavelength band among the solar light is reflected by a dielectric multilayer film (DF). Other light (L) in longer wavelength bands are passed through the dielectric multilayer film (DF), then a base material (SS), and reflected by a metal deposition film (MV) to pass through the base material (SS) and the dielectric multilayer film (DF). Thus, high reflectance in a wide band is ensured.

Optical element

Provided is a highly reliable solar collecting system. Since a concave minor has a reflection film on a base material on the side opposite to the side of a solar light incoming surface, peeling, breaking and the like are suppressed by protecting the reflection film by the base material, even when a dropping material is brought into contact with the side of the reflection film with impact or accumulated dropped materials are periodically cleaned. As an elliptical mirror has a reflection film on the base material on the side of the solar light incoming surface, even when solar light having large energy enters, the solar light is reflected by the reflection surface before reaching the base material and there is a small possibility of having the base material heated.

Sunlight collecting system

A wavelength conversion element, including: a substrate; and a ceramic layer formed on the substrate, the ceramic layer being obtained by sintering a ceramic precursor; wherein the ceramic precursor is a compound selected from the group composed of alkoxysilane and a compound having a plurality of siloxane structures; a phosphor and particles of an oxide are mixed with the ceramic precursor; the phosphor has particle diameters within a range of from 1 &#x3bc;m to 50 &#x3bc;m and a concentration of the phosphor in the ceramic layer is equal to or more than 40 wt % and less than 95 wt %; and the particles of the oxide have primary particle diameters within a range of from 0.001 &#x3bc;m to 30 &#x3bc;m and a concentration within a range of from 0.5 wt % to 20 wt % in the ceramic layer.

Two-dimensional photonic crystal surface-emitting laser comprising a two-dimensional photonic crystal, having media different in refractive index arrayed in a two-dimensional cycle, disposed in the vicinity of an active layer that emits light by the injection of carriers, wherein the two-dimensional photonic crystal consists of square lattices having equal lattice constants in perpendicular directions, and a basic lattice consisting of a square with one medium as a vertex has an asymmetric refractive index distribution with respect to either one of the two diagonals of the basic lattice to thereby emit light in a constant polarizing direction.

Two-dimensional photonic crystal surface-emitting laser

A monitor optical device has a first region and a second region. The first region transmits part of light beam emitted from a light source to introduce the transmitted light beam to a monitor device. The second region reflects the remainder of the light beam to introduce the reflected light beam to an optical disk. The first region is formed at least within the second region.

An optical pickup apparatus has a semiconductor laser source which emits a laser beam in a wavelength band of 405 nm having an elliptic light intensity distribution; a beam shaping element which shapes the light intensity distribution of the laser beam; a polarizing beam splitter having a polarized light separation film in contact with the air and reflecting the laser beam shaped by the beam shaping element on the polarized light separation film; and an objective lens which focuses the laser beam reflected on the polarized light separation film onto an optical information recording medium.

Optical pickup apparatus

An optical element for reflecting light has a substrate and a thin film formed on the substrate. The thin film reflects light in a predetermined reflection wavelength band so that the thin film adjusts a difference in phase differences between a P-polarized light component and S-polarized light component of an incident light to the thin film and between P-polarized light component and S-polarized light component of the reflected light to 180&#xb0;&#xb1;10&#xb0; at an absolute value.

Optical element and optical pickup device used therewith

A polarizing beam splitter having a film made of a high-refractivity material and a film made of a low-refractivity material alternately stacked on a substrate. When an incidence angle with respect to a film surface in a particular wavelength is set as &#x3b8; (&#xb0;), the following conditional expressions are satisfied in the range of 40&#x2266;&#x3b8;&#x2266;50(&#xb0;):0.99&#x2266;Rs(45)/Rs(&#x3b8;)&#x2266;1.04, 0.96&#x2266;Tp(45)/Tp(&#x3b8;)&#x2266;1.05, where Rs(&#x3b8;): reflectivity of polarized light s at a &#x3b8; incidence; Tp(&#x3b8;) transmissivity of polarized light p at a &#x3b8; incidence angle; Rs(45): reflectivity of polarized light s at a 45&#xb0; incidence angle; and, Tp(45) transmissivity of polarized light p at a 45&#xb0; incidence angle. The transmissivity of the polarized light p does not decrease and the reflectivity of the polarized light s is nearly 100% with respect to even a broad angle region.

Polarizing beam splitter

A polarization conversion optical system converts light having a nonuniform plane of polarization into light having a uniform plane of polarization. The system includes a multilayer dielectric film at the side upon which the target light is incident. The film exhibits the property that it reflects one polarized component of the light and transmits a second polarized component of the light at a first angle of incidence, but transmits the first component at a second angle of incidence. Incident target light that is transmitted through the film at the first angle of incidence passes through a quarter-wavelength plate and is reflected at the second angle, whereupon it is retransmitted through the quarter-wavelength plate to be converted from one plane of polarization to the other. It is then emitted from the dielectric film in the same plane of polarization as light reflected by the film.

Disclosed herewith is an optical switch provided on an optical path of an optical waveguide and which switches an advancing direction of a light passed through the optical path. The optical switch includes a movable switching member which switches the advancing direction of the light, and a driving member which electrostatically drives said switching member to move in an arbitrary position so that the light passed through the optical path is guided to different directions.

The optical waveguide includes an optical waveguide layer, and a filter element including an ultraviolet curing liquid crystal layer disposed in a position which divides the optical waveguide layer in a waveguide direction. The ultraviolet curing liquid crystal layer having a twisted structure in which a helical pitch after curing reflects light of a predetermined wavelength.
