The present invention relates to a gas generator for an air bag apparatus mounted in a vehicle or the like for protecting an occupant in the vehicle by charging gas into the air bag interposed between the occupant and a vehicle member at the time of collision of the vehicle. The gas generator for the air bag of the present invention comprises a first chamber ( ) accommodating a flammable fluid ( ) having a first vent opening ( ) which is in communication with the air bag ( ), a second chamber ( ) accommodating the flammable fluid ( ) and having a volume greater than that of the first chamber ( ), a first occluding member ( ) for occluding the first vent opening ( ), and an ignition device ( ) for igniting the flammable fluid ( ) in the first chamber ( ). By burning at least a portion of the flammable fluid ( ) in the first chamber ( ), the fluid in the first chamber ( ) and the second chamber ( ) is discharged out through the first vent opening ( ), thereby inflating the air bag ( ). Therefore, since the first occluding member is swiftly destroyed and burnt fluid mixture in the first chamber is discharged, it is possible to shorten the initial responding time at which the air bag starts inflating.

The present invention relates to a gas generating apparatus for an air bag apparatus mounted in a vehicle or the like for protecting a passenger of the vehicle by charging a gas into an air bag interposed between the passenger and an interior member of the vehicle chamber so as to inflate the air bag at the time of collision of the vehicle. The gas generating apparatus for the air bag apparatus includes a first chamber,which accommodates a combustible fluid,and which is provided with a first vent opening,leading to the air bag,; a second chamber,larger than the first chamber,; a first occluding member,for occluding the first vent opening,; and an ignition device,for igniting the combustible fluid in the first chamber,. Charging method and charging structure of combustible gas and oxidizer

A charging structure of a combustible gas and an oxidizer gas includes a container for containing the combustible and oxidizer gases therein. The container has a charging port for charging the combustible and oxidizer gases. The charging structure also includes a sealing member for sealing the charging port and a separating member for substantially separating the combustible gas and the oxidizer gas at least in the vicinity of the charging port during a predetermined time period beginning, from a time point after charging of the combustible and oxidizer gases into the container through the charging port to a time point when the charging port is sealed by the sealing member. A discharge-pumped gas laser, typically a discharge-pumped excimer laser, includes a main discharge circuit for producing an electric discharge in a laser gas to excite the laser gas for laser emission. The main discharge circuit comprises a first electric circuit having a thyratron, a charging circuit including a charging capacitor for storing an electric energy to operate the thyratron, and a discharging circuit including a pair of main discharge electrodes and a peaking capacitor for storing an electric energy to cause a main discharge in the laser gas between the main discharge electrodes. The laser gas is preionized by preionizers having a plurality of preionizing electrodes which produce an electric discharge to preionize the laser gas. The preionizing electrodes are connected in a second circuit which has a plurality of distributing capacitors for storing an electric energy to enable the preionizing electrodes to preionize the laser gas and supply substantially uniform electric currents to the preionizing electrodes. The distributing capacitors have substantially the same capacitances. The first and second electric circuits are substantially independent of each other.

Discharge-pumped gas laser with independent preionizing circuit

A discharge-pumped gas laser has a pressure container filled with a laser gas under pressure and a pair of elongate main discharge electrodes. The main discharge electrodes are disposed in the pressure container in confronting relationship to each other for producing an electric discharge in the laser gas in a main discharge region defined therebetween to excite the laser gas for laser emission. The laser gas is circulated to flow through the main discharge region in a direction perpendicular to the main discharge electrodes. The laser gas in the main discharge region is preionized by an UV preionizer disposed either upstream or downstream of the main discharge region with respect to the direction of flow of the laser beam. The pressure container houses a baffle partition for controlling the laser gas to flow past one of the main discharge electrodes and the preionizer while blocking the laser gas from directly flowing to the other of the main discharge electrodes and the preionizer.

A laser apparatus comprises an optical resonator including first and second mirrors, and laser medium. An wavelength selection element is provided in the resonator for narrowing band-width. A polarizing conversion element for changing ratio of S to P components and polarizing beam splitter are provided for amplifying laser beam to output after wavelength selection and for reducing light load of the wavelength selection element. The polarizing conversion element is provided in the resonator light path. In another embodiment, the polarizing conversion element is provided in a branch light path formed by a second polarizing conversion element and a third mirror, where the second polarizing conversion element reflects and transmits P component at a given ratio and reflects S component. The wavelength selection element comprises a Fabry-Perot etalon, grating, or prism. The polarizing conversion element comprises a quarter-wave plate or a phase retarder mirror. The polarizing beam splitting element comprises a polarizing beam splitter or polarizing beam splitting prism. Such laser apparatus is suited for an exposure light source for photolithography.

Narrow-band laser apparatus

A laser beam generated between a total reflector and an output coupler is turned back by plural reflectors which are mounted in a discharge region along two main electrodes at 45.degree., and the discharge region is divided into plural divided discharge regions, thus, a diameter of an output laser beam is reduced to a diameter of the divided discharge regions.

Laser apparatus

A laser apparatus comprises an optical resonator including first and second mirrors, and lasing medium. An wavelength selection element is provided in the resonator for narrowing band-width. A polarizing conversion element for changing ratio of S to P components and polarizing beam splitter are provided for amplifying laser beam to output after wavelength selection and for reducing light load of the wavelength selection element. The polarizing conversion element is provided in the resonator light path. In another embodiment, the polarizing conversion element is provided in a branch light path formed by a second polarizing conversion element and a third mirror, where the second polarizing conversion element reflects and transmits P component at a given ratio and reflects S component. The wavelength selection element comprises a Fabry-Perot etalon, grating, or prism. The polarizing conversion element comprises a quarter-wave plate or a phase retarder mirror. The polarizing beam splitting element comprises a polarizing beam splitter or polarizing beam splitting prism. The polarizing beam splitter and phase retarder prism may have a fine adjusting mechanism to adjust its optical axis to obtain desired characteristic. Such laser apparatus is suited for an exposure light source for photolithography.

A method of operating a laser is disclosed which includes irradiating an optical component in an atmosphere of dry air or dry inert gas with a laser beam, wherein the optical component is provided with an antireflection film having at least a layer of calcogenide glass and a layer of potassium chloride or lead fluoride.

Antireflection film

An antireflection film composed of a layer of arsenic triselenide having an optical thickness in the range between 2.518 and 2.783 .mu.m, a layer of potassium chloride having an optical thickness in the range between 1.151 and 1.272 .mu.m and a layer of arsenic triselenide having an optical thickness in the range between 0.577 and 0.749 .mu.m which are successively formed on a member of infrared radiation transmitting material formed of a mixture of thalium iodide and thalium bromide. The member provided with the three-layer antireflection film is used in an atmosphere of protective gas, such as dry air or dry N.sub.2 gas.

An anti-reflection coating film is disclosed which has a three-layer structure and is adapted to be deposited on a substrate made of a mixed crystal of thallium iodide and thallium bromide. The structure comprises a first arsenic triselenide layer, a second lead fluoride layer and a third arsenic triselenide layer for protection of the second layer.
