A controller for the hybrid vehicle selects an engine as a power apparatus of the hybrid vehicle when a request load is higher than a threshold load, and selects ae motor as the power apparatus when the request load is equal to or lower than the threshold load. The controller sets the threshold load in accordance with a SOC of a battery, and decreases the threshold load as the SOC is lower in at least a predetermined SOC range. The controller controls an intake air temperature during stopping of the engine to a target intake air temperature by operating an intake air temperature variable system when the motor is selected as the power apparatus. The controller sets the target intake air temperature in accordance with the SOC, and increases the target intake air temperature as the SOC is lower in at least the predetermined SOC range.

Hybrid vehicle

A controller for the hybrid vehicle compensates for a shortage of an engine output to a vehicle demand output by discharge electric power of a battery when the vehicle demand output is higher than an upper limit output of a target operating range, and charges the battery by an excess of the engine output to the vehicle demand output when the vehicle demand output is lower than a lower limit output of the target operating range. The target operating range is set to a low load side as a SOC of the battery is higher in a predetermined SOC range. Also, the controller controls an intake air temperature during stopping of the engine to a target intake air temperature when the hybrid vehicle is traveling with the engine stopped. The target intake air temperature is increased as the SOC is lower in the predetermined SOC range.

An exhaust gas recirculation system for an internal combustion engine is provided. The exhaust gas recirculation system includes: an EGR passage configured to connect an exhaust gas passage of the internal combustion engine with an intake air passage; an EGR cooling system arranged at the EGR passage; and a control device configured to control the EGR cooling system. The control device is configured to provide feedback control of the cooling efficiency of the EGR cooling system to cause the temperature of intake gas suctioned into a cylinder of the internal combustion engine to approach a target intake gas temperature. The control device is configured to more increase the amount of change of the cooling efficiency when the flow rate of EGR gas recirculated is less.

Exhaust gas recirculation system for internal combustion engine

A control device for an internal combustion engine adjusts the flow rate ratio between an amount of exhaust gas flowing to an exhaust gas recirculation cooler and an amount of exhaust gas flowing to a bypass passage, which bypasses the exhaust gas recirculation cooler, such that the amount of exhaust gas flowing to the exhaust gas recirculation cooler becomes zero during (i) a predetermined period from a point in time at which the exhaust gas recirculation operation shifts to execution, (ii) a period in which fuel cut is performed and the bed temperature of a catalyst is lower than a predetermined overheat temperature, or (iii) a period in which the flow rate of refrigerant flowing to the exhaust gas recirculation cooler is lower than a predetermined flow rate and the temperature of the refrigerant is lower than a predetermined first temperature.

Control device for internal combustion engine

A control device for calculating a steady target value that is a target value of a supercharging pressure during steady operation on the basis of an engine rotation speed and a fuel injection amount in a turbocharged diesel engine. The control device operates the actuator through feedback control such that an actual supercharging pressure calculated from a signal of a supercharging pressure sensor follows the steady target value.

Control device for turbocharged diesel engine

A control device is applied to an engine having a supercharger and a control value. The supercharger contains an opening-area control member that changes an opening-area of an approach zone to a turbine of the supercharger so as to change an amount of energy of the exhaust gas entering into the supercharger. The control valve changes a valve-opening degree so as to change an amount of energy of the exhaust gas entering into the supercharger. At a certain instruction time point, the control device gives an instruction to the control valve so as to change the valve-opening degree by a target difference. At this time point, the control device gives an instruction to the opening-area control member, based on the target difference and a parameter relating to a response-time length of the control valve, so as to change the opening-area of the approach zone.

A first supercharger and a second supercharger are disposed in series in intake and exhaust passages. In a B region in which both the supercharging effects of the first and second superchargers are utilized, the opening of an exhaust control valve disposed in a passage for bypassing the turbine of the first supercharger is set to an intermediate degree, and the opening of an intake control valve disposed in a passage for bypassing the compressor of the first supercharger is set to the minimum. In a C region in which the supercharging effect of only the second supercharger is utilized, both the openings of the exhaust control valve and the intake control valve are set to the maximum. When the control region shifts from B region to C region as result of acceleration of the vehicle, the fuel injection amount is reduced over a predetermined period immediately after the shift.

Control apparatus for internal combustion engine equipped with supercharger

An apparatus for determining an abnormality of a control valve is applied to an internal combustion engine having a first supercharger, a second supercharger, a first control valve, and a second control valve. The apparatus includes an electronic control unit to obtain two supercharging-pressure-corresponding-values before and after an opening degree of the first control valve is changed during a period in which the engine is operated in a specific operating state under which the first supercharger supercharges the engine more efficiently than the second supercharger, and to determine whether or not the second control valve is abnormal based on the two values with respect to the change of the opening degree of the first control valve.

In a gas-mixture-nonuniformity acquisition apparatus for an internal combustion engine, the nonuniformity of fuel concentration within a gas mixture is acquired under the assumption that, in a process in which a cylinder interior gas taken into a combustion chamber of the engine and fuel injected into the combustion chamber mix together to form a gas mixture, a collision reaction repeatedly takes place within the gas mixture in such a manner that, due to collision of two gas volumes having different fuel mass ratios, respective portions of the two gas volumes mix together, and the mixed portions separate from the corresponding gas volumes and form a portion or the entirety of another gas volume having a fuel mass ratio different from those of the two gas volumes.

Gas-mixture-nonuniformity acquisition apparatus and gas-mixture-state acquisition apparatus for internal combustion engine

The present invention is applied to an internal combustion engine comprising a first supercharger, a second supercharger, a first control valvefor controlling a supply of an exhaust gas to the first supercharger, and a second control valvefor controlling a supply of an air to the first supercharger, and provides to an apparatus for determining an abnormality of a control valve which can determine abnormality of the first control valve and the second control valve. The apparatus for determining an abnormality of a control valve determines abnormality of a control valve when a supercharging pressure is smaller than a predetermined referential supercharging pressure by a predetermined value or more. The apparatus for determining an abnormality of a control valve determines that the first control valve is abnormal and the second control valve is normal if a pressure of an air at a downstream side of a compressor of the first supercharger is larger than a pressure of an air at an upstream side of the compressor by a predetermined value or more. In the meantime, the apparatus for determining an abnormality of a control valve determines that either one of the first control valve and the second control valve is abnormal if the pressure of the air at a downstream side of the compressor of the first supercharger is not larger than the pressure of the air at an upstream side of the compressor by a predetermined value or more.

In a gas mixture temperature estimation method for an internal combustion engine, before a forefront portion of a gas mixture reaches an inner wall surface of the combustion chamber, the gas mixture temperature is calculated in accordance with a predetermined equation which is based on the assumption that no head exchange occurs between the gas mixture and cylinder interior gas which exists around the gas mixture without mixing with fuel. After the gas mixture forefront portion reaches the inner wall surface of the combustion chamber, the gas mixture temperature calculated in accordance with the equation is corrected in consideration of the quantity of heat transfer between the gas mixture and the cylinder interior gas and the quantity of heat transfer between the gas mixture and the wall.

Method of estimating temperature of gas mixture for internal combustion engine

The present apparatus calculates a mass ma (mass ratio ma/mf) of mixing-gas-forming cylinder interior gas, which is a portion of cylinder interior gas to be mixed with a forefront portion of injected fuel vapor having a mass of mf, on the basis of a predetermined empirical formula. Subsequently, under the assumption that heat exchange with the outside does not occur, the apparatus calculates an adiabatic gas mixture temperature Tmix of the gas mixture forefront portion on the basis of the heat quantity of the fuel vapor having a mass of mf and the heat quantity of the mixing-gas-forming cylinder interior gas having a mass of ma. Subsequently, in consideration of an amount of heat that the gas mixture forefront portion receives from peripheral cylinder interior gas mainly via a circumferential surface thereof, the apparatus estimates a final gas mixture temperature Tmixfin of the gas mixture forefront portion (i.e., the temperature of the gas mixture) in accordance with the equation Tmixfin=Tmix (1&#x2212;Kex)+Ta Kex, where Ta represents cylinder interior gas temperature, and Kex represents a heat exchange coefficient (0&#x3c;Kex&#x3c;1).
