An accessory drive system for an engineincludes: a drive shaft (a crankshaft); a driven shaft (an oil pump drive shaft); an endless transmission member (a drive chain); a first tensioner disposed on a slack side of the endless transmission member (a first hydraulic tensioner); and a second tensioner disposed on a tight side of the endless transmission member (a second hydraulic tensioner). The second tensioner has a damping function to damp pushing force applied to the second tensioner by the endless transmission member in a direction opposite to a biasing direction.

Disclosed is an assembling method for a timing system of an engine to wind a timing chain () around a sprocket () attached to a crankshaft () and a sprocket () attached to a camshaft (). The assembling method comprises the steps of: winding the timing chain () around the respective sprockets () while aligning a reference mark provided on a respective one of the sprockets (), with a corresponding one of alignment marks provided on the timing chain () in associated relation with respective ones of the reference marks; preliminarily assembling, to an engine body (), a chain guide () adapted to be brought into contact with a tight side () of the timing chain (); positioning the crankshaft () and the camshaft () at corresponding reference phase positions; and finally assembling the preliminarily-assembled chain guide () to the engine body (), while bringing the chain guide () into contact with the tight side () of the timing chain () with a given pushing force.
